Immersive Baseball

I'm surprised MacRumors didn't mention this today. But, the first immersive baseball game has started, Yankees and Red Sox from Yankee Stadium.

Agree! Not a sports fan but that was incredible! Apple had a decent play caller which always helps.

The best part though?!? Not a single commercial. It was so nice not seeing a beer commercial every other pitch.

I have always said this is where the mixed reality headsets would shine. Concerts, theatre, sporting events, etc. People can't travel to see these things all the time. It would be amazing to pop on the headset and be emersed into a concert as if you were there front and center. Be sitting at the 50 yd line at a football game, behind the bench at a hockey game etc.

I saw that John Gruber on Daring Fireball posted a review of the experience, he was very enthusiastic about it.

I think if you’re a sports fan, this justifies the price of the Vision Pro. What does travel and tickets to a Red Sox @ Yankees game cost, with premium infield seats? And this is an experience which is like being there live, but even better, because the camera is placed at the batting team’s dugout, giving you the best possible view of the batter, the pitcher and the infield.

It’s a bright spot in the landscape of sports broadcasting, for sure.

I believe there is an ~8 minute highlight video that stays available, at least for awhile. Not sure about the entire experience.

Just amazing! Some of the cameras are so close to the players that it almost feels like you’re encroaching on their space. It’s cool that they have cameras from the seats perspective as well as on the field. Very well done 👏
