iMovie Help!!!

Hello! Does anyone know how to make your transitions last longer than your clip? Cause each time I want a transition to last like- 15s- then it lengthens my clip and I can't seem to stop it.
Is it just not possible in iMovie, or am I missing something?

Please help!
