I just received my new 24" imac aluminum today and have been busy transfering my files. I thought I would give my general impressions. I should let you know that I am a recent switcher (or returner from the old Mac SE days).
The original box was huge. Its packaging was a work of art similar to other Apple products. The large white box, handle, styrofoam on the top which contained the keyboard, mouse, and two small manuals.
I was shocked at how large the screen is. It is enormous. Much bigger in my home than it looked in Apple Store.
It is absolutely beautiful. I don't notice any inconsistent look with the aluminum and black. To me it goes together very well.
The screen is also beautiful and I have not noticed any problems with the glossy screen. It is in front of a window, but the window has a semi-transparent curtain and today is overcast.
As a recent switcher, I was blown away by the simple details and elegance of just setting up the imac at the beginning. The rotating box where you entered the details was a nice touch. I have not noticed many big problems switching from the mac. I was able to download important software such as flip 4 mac without a problem. Installing the software is much easier than windows.
One thing that is strange is that there does not seem to be a way to preview thumbnails of images under finder. As I understand it this is a feature of Leopard, but its absence is strange (I did try installing a plugin to allow this).
This machine is great for multitasking and I have itunes, iphoto, Safari, and texteditor running with no problems.
I also have added eyetv hybrid and it works great. The picture is great and I forced it into a 16:9 resolution to take advantage of the entire screen. Very nice. I have not looked at HDTV yet.
Anyways, I will add more as I continue on and perhaps some unboxing photos.
