Picked up our Mini 5s yesterday. Impressed with how much thinner, lighter and faster they are compared to the Mini 2. An absolutely significant upgrade. Got everything migrated over without a hitch and set up in very little time. Apple has made tremendous improvements in migrating settings over from one device to another.

A bit disappointed in how widgets function differently on the iPadOS versus iOS, but hardly a deal breaker.

In my country prices are as follows
- iPad 389 with only 32 GB storage
- iPad mini 459
- iPad air 669
- iPad pro 899

There is a discount selling the mini now at 360.
Never owned an iPad but somehow the mini seems easier to hold?

Your thoughts?

The mini is the most useful device Apple makes, I’ve found. Its light weight & size make it easy to hold, and unlike bigger iPads which stay at home, it’s small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or squeeze into most back pants pockets, so it goes everywhere a phone goes, and has twice the display size of a phone, making everything easier to see, enabling the use of full-featured iPad apps as well as the Apple Pencil, making both a big iPad and Phone unnecessary redundancies. The internet service is cheap as dirt, & a permanent phone number & unlimited service over Skype is $30 a year, so for the cost of a single months iPhone bill, the mini provides you with more utility and the same connectivity service for an entire year.

It’s the single most useful thing Apple makes. They’ve stopped promoting it and haven’t given it a meaningful update in 5 years. I expect they’ll kill it, as they’d much rather sell you 2 other, much more expensive products that are each 1/3 as handy as this one.

Try using cellular connected mini as your only device, and after a few weeks see if you still want to look at the tiny cramped screen of a phone, or have a big heavy iPad that only lives on your coffee table.

Not the best pictures, it’s getting on for 11pm here and night mode on my phone seems to come out blurry when I put a video on and try to take a photo so I took them without it.

The first is from ITV player and the second from BritBox, where there is an option to zoom in the video. Whether there is a zoom in option and how good that is is app dependent. The last one is All 4.

When I tried to photograph the side in this light the gold looked more like the 5th Gen Gold. The Apple site’s representation of the Gold is pretty good and there are videos with it in on YouTube. It’s the same Gold as the Air 3 and 6th-8th Gen iPad.

I wanted to add - because I know the folks in this forum will get a good chuckle from it - that I have repurposed my iPad Mini 2 as my Chromecast control hub for our bedroom TV and use it to cast from our TV apps.
