Mine is still indexing on both iPhone Pro Max 16 and iPad Pro M4. I installed within an hour of Keynote. Also, Still waiting on the new Siri (assume index is blocking that). I wish there was some way to see how far the index has gone. (btw surprised the devices are not getting hot, since that is what usually happens).

Is the message right at the top as soon as you open settings? I just did the update and dont see an indexing message. The phone is hot so it's obviously doing something in the background. I just dont see the notice in settings as of right now. It's only been 15 or so minutes since the update finished though. Anyone have a screenshot of the message?

Man… what’s going to suck is that they are going to keep changing the “indexing”… and their will be certain updates will force everybody’s phone to re-index… Not to mention going to the GM release..

(I’m not that environmental friendly, but think about how much power is going to be wasted world wide on indexing/reindexing)…

48 hours on my iPad Pro. No change. Still indexing. This could just be a bug🤷‍♂️
It’s not a bug. The thing is that in the past it wasn’t front and center right on the top of the settings page letting people know…. This is why everyone is freaking out about it. Apple should have just left it in the background

I don’t think there is any correlation between the waitlist and indexing. I was accepted around 9pm est on Monday, however my iPad Air m3 is still indexing two days later

So if as I suspect many people participate in the beta program on their daily drivers - their phones could be indexing right up until the middle of September ?
😂
Haha, forever indexing is the thing that Apple never tell everybody at WWDC 2026. I really want to know how many weeks does it take to complete indexing. Siri is always things that Apple made propaganda for so long, but it never work as advertised. Too much trouble.

Leaving my 13 pro max plugged in and on WiFi, screen off, for more than 24 hours, still indexing endlessly. Apple has to do better. This will be pain for users
Why would it be a “pain” for users? How exactly is it affecting you besides keeping you informed?
Battery life isn’t being affected and the device has been running smooth. Why are you bothered by the message?

I assumed the poor battery life and overheating on my 17 Pro was a result of all of the background indexing, and that performance would likely improve once indexing has finished… is that not accurate?

What are you talking about?
iOS doesn’t re-index the whole drive over with each update. Indexing is done continuously as new files are added to the drive. With iOS 27, Apple changed the way indexing is performed so Siri can perform better, and hence the extended delay this time.

The heating and the battery life should both improve after the initial 24 hours as long as the device spends a lot of that time on a charger. Even with the “indexing” message still present.
Beyond that, the impact on battery life would be minimal if any.

So, on my iPhone and on my MBA indexing seems to have finished, although I don’t remember seeing it saying it was in progress. Both of my iPads are still indexing. I have everything in iCloud and would think that indexing time would be about the same. Obviously I spend most of my time on my iPads! Oh, and neither the iPhone or MBA spend much time charging. Does anyone else have this behavior?

Probably also responsible for intermittent lagginess.

Let’s not get carried away it is just DB1… I’m sure they will find ways to make indexing more efficient by public release or even public beta… I personally don’t notice any performance hit from the ongoing indexing and maybe a mild battery hit thus far
