Apple did inspire Google and more Android OEMs to remove headphone jack although Motorola did it first and nobody noticed.

I'm hoping Matias Duarte in Google copies gesture swipes. Remove the onscreen buttons. Swipe up to go home. Swipe right to back. Figure out the gesture for recent and split-view.

Matias isn't really copying gesture swipes since he was part of the webOS team that inspired imitators. To me, iOS and Android are each other's inspiration like DC and Marvel except you have fanboys criticizing them both.

First five years -
iOS

Last five years -
Android

Understand that Apple is one company. Android is a family of different ideas. A patchwork. A pot luck.

Marvel ripped off alot of DC. I prefer Marvel more but DC set the tone. That's similar to iOS and Android. To me, iOS is DC of the earlier comic book years (1938-1955, Golden Age).

Except DC and Marvel don't accuse each other of plagiarism since they have employees that worked for both similar to being an Uber AND Lyft driver. Apple loves to patent troll.

Just work together for the better and stop worrying about who copied what.

Prototypes weren't, though. The original prototypes looked like Blackberrys until iPhone was announced.

Android was intended to compete with Windows Mobile, not the Blackberry.

That's why Android was originally designed to be the same as WM and support both non-touch and touch phones.

In fact, the non-touch Android developer phone was a Windows Mobile model:

The touch developer Android phone was still being worked on by HTC.

That is true. Apple took the graphic interface from xerox and made it more usable...

In this case, Xerox saw no value in the graphical user interface and mouse. Their RD team hunted for someone to use their idea. Apple paid for the technology.

Microsoft was basically the first with a PDA with internet browser, “apps” and stylus with the pocketpc. Again they underestimated the technology/market.

At least Google saw the market of the touchscreen phone when their board members were on the Apple board before they were thrown out.

I think Apple opened NFC up, but devs not really using it it seems.

Honestly 3rd party keyboards on IOS are a mess. Might as well not have added them if they are going to be buggy as heck.

NFC on iOS is severely more limited than on Android. Basically it seems to only allow reading NFC tags and not the other modes offered with NFC. I don't know how exactly those are used but a co-worker working on a software that uses the feature said that NFC on iOS poses severe limitations on what they can do with it. More info here.

I agree 3rd party keyboard are a mess. None of them are optimized to work on iPad and all of them seem to work worse than the Android keyboards. Even the default iOS keyboard has annoyances like no prediction when Googling from the address bar in Safari.

DC (1934) vs Marvel (1939)

Big Screen - Marvel
Small Screen - DC
Originality - DC
Characters - Marvel
Comics - Tie

iOS (2007) vs Android (2003/2008)

Hardware - Depends. If flagship, Android.
Software - Android (for me)
Features - Android
Versatility - Android
Variety - Android
Value - Android
Ecosystem - iOS
Resell Value - iOS
Updates - iOS
Aftermarket Service - iOS
Consistent Experience - iOS
Safety/Privacy - iOS
Services - Google > Apple
Originality - Tie. They inspire each other like DC and Marvel. The last five years has been mostly from Google and Android OEMs.

I can't wait when Matias Duarte puts gesture swipes on Android. Then uneducated ones who don't know who he is will complain that Android is copying iPhone again.
