I’m looking to migrate from an old computer to a new computer. In the process, I found out that my old computer has the most updated OS whereas the new computer is not yet updated to the most updated OS, so the migration won’t work.

How do I update the new computer to the latest OS and can I do that without having to create a new account or all the other things that are required when setting up a brand new computer?

Create a USB memory stick with the latest macOS installer and use that to upgrade the machine or create a dummy account, upgrade the machine and then use Erase All Settings and Content to wipe the machine and start the migration.
