Extending Thanks to all contributors that helped me solve my dilemma! I must have spent 8 hours reading tutorials and watching Youtube videos. This research provided clues but nothing conclusive until I reached out here. Quite a journey!

Now I can still use my legacy software such as Photoshop and MS Office but can also benefit from a more current OS and sort-of-current browsers!

Glad to hear you've succeeded. Just a heads-up: your iMac can run High Sierra as well, which would allow you to run current versions of e.g. Chrome and Firefox.

Actually, I'm pretty sure both Chrome and Firefox should be supported in even normal Sierra?

Of course, you could also run Chromium Legacy in Lion and still have an up to date browser... ?‍♂️
