I use a hacked Diablo 2 which has never crashed on me under Leopard. I have a Late 2006 MBP. IMO if you have a legit copy then downloading a hacked one is ok....

Blizzard has a new feature on Battle.net (http://us.battle.net/) where you can register all your Blizzard games, which then allows you to download and install those games directly from Blizzard without the game CDs. I was able to install Starcraft and Diablo II with the expansion, and they're running fine on my Intel iMac running 10.5.

That is because you have a RADEON GPU is my guess.

Diablo needs 256 bit color depth and the Nvidia drivers in the latest Leopard do not support that.

I just installed SL yesterday on my iMac and ran into the same problems with Diablo. Someone in another thread on these issues posted a quick work-around: Choose the software renderer and 256 colors, and click through the opening screens, choosing your character. When the game actually opens in your level's home town, hit Command-M to minimize the screen view. That should fix the splintered graphics. Then hit Command-M again to toggle back to full-screen view. The graphics should remain fine. It worked for me.

I bought my MacBook Pro about 1 month ago (just after snow leopard release). It's a 13",with 2.53 GHz, 4 gigs memory, it has the 9400m graphics card and a 500 gig HD. I can play the game, but about 15 minutes into it the game freezes. Also i see random white blocks where there should be trees (but not all of the trees are white blocks). Anyone know what the problem is?

Played for about 30 mins after installing. Running in Open GL 800x600 stretched. No problems other than the occasional slow down.

MBP 13" 10.6.1

I really don't know how you pulled that off, my computer refuses to run the game for more than 15 minutes. I have a new 13" (maybe 1 month old).

As far as I know they have done little to fix this. Even after numerous complaints and an extensive amount of time. Blizzard sucks and always will :p

A friend just asked me to help him install Diablo 2 on his new Macbook pro 13". In this thread people said that Diablo 2 would not work on an Nvidia card, but in other threads people have claimed to have had luck getting D2 to run on iMacs with the 9400, or even Macbooks.

What's the answer? Will Diablo 2 run on the 9400?

Had no prob... there is a specific installer and make sure you are running the correct patch for the install you do. Check blizzards tech support for DII. Also, there is a beta patch linked, but that fixes an issue that rbarris put up for us... do a search. It runs on my sons mackbook w/ 9400 and ran OK on mine with the 8800GT... But I think I might have the beta patch installed...

I've checked out the Battle.net tech support area, but couldn't find anything about the 256 color problem that Leopard has.

Also, if the work around is a beta patch, does that mean no online play?

I got D2 + LOD expansion to work on my new MacBookPro (running 10.6 and 10.5 earlier). I installed it (legit) from cds onto my G4 powerbook (running 10.4). Then I copied D2 and exp applications into Applications. Next, I copied preference files from powerbook to library/preferences folder on my MBP.

I did not think it would work but it works just fine --- I can play D2 on my MBP running SnowLeopard.

I got Diablo 2 plus LoD to run fine on my late 2008 MBP under 10.5.8 using the 9400. I registered the games on Battle.net, downloaded the client and installed.

Installing from Battlenet

How did you mangage to install without using the disc's? I downloaded it from battlenet but with LOD it immediately asked me to insert the disc's as I tried to install. I have the key code from my original disc's but don't have the disc's with me and I wanted to play.

BTW I have had the same problems with trying to play on this MB Pro in the past.

Thanks,

Todd.

If I remember correctly, once you've downloaded Diablo from Battle.net, do not install Diablo first. Just tell the installer to install LoD and it should fix it all up. Upgrading from Diablo to LoD I don't think works, except with the CD version.

The issue is with LOD...once the game download there is an installation screen that immediately asks for the disc's once you accept the terms of service.

Downloaded the digital copy of the game from battle.net, and it works great. On top of that, i don't need the actual disk to play the game. I really recommend doing this if you're having problems.

D2 LOD:Mac pro

I have my D2 cd's, CD key and my LOD CD key but no LOD CD:( I tried finding a download for the CD but had to get a installer because I have a macbook pro (brand new) and it doesn't support the Classic environment. HELP! Does anybody know where I can download the LOD CD sheeeeeze? Or am I really that F-ed and really have to go buy a new set...

Diablo II, I spent so much time on that game. Feel like playing it again but too bad I sold the game. Still have the expansion (not much good tho)

Wow, talk about resuscitating a thread from the past! Thanks though, the nostalgia and memories reading this thread has brought back, wow! So many hundreds of hours of my life wasted with that game...and the score that I hummed in my sleep for months after I quit:). Wow! Almost completely forgot that DIII was coming (or has been for a couple of years, no?)

Not sure with a couple mortgages, little league practices and one of them job thingies that I could devote the time necessary to go visit the Butcher (my favorite boss in the early game(s)...I suppose it would make an excellent winter pastime though when too cold to ski! Wow...sorry to go a bit off topic but this thread got me looking around. Now I'm curious...with so much time thats gone by, has Blizzard and Mac figured things out? If I go pick up the games, new, retail in the Battle Chest...is it plug n play? Or do I have to worry about a bunch or hunting around for fix files and drivers? Specifically on the latest MBPs and iMacs. Anyone still on the battle net servers these days?

Thanks
J

Since we're having a nice bit of nostalgia, I'll go ahead and quote rwd hero from a few posts back so you can get your D2 on. All you have to do is reg your keys with battle.net and you can download the "discs" from there.
