This probably belongs under the Snow Leopard PPC project thread, given its appearance on the 10A96 Server build of Snow Leopard:

Might anyone here who’s been around back-end development of Macs going back to 2008 be familiar with what the (ultimately unused) preference pane called InstantOff.prefPane, under /System/Library/PreferencePanes , was intended to do specifically?

Aside from having to probably do with powering down/sleeping (judging solely from the icon used) and related to Energy Saver, I can’t really find much, if any info on it.

Obviously, the idea was jettisoned before Snow Leopard was released.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but have you tried simply opening it on Leopard or SL?

I have! (and sorry, I should have noted this before)

It’s empty. There are language support directories for, like, four and those too were empty (sorry, not in front of that computer right now). At 28KB, is literally a shell of a prefPane.

Now in front of the test box:

It turns out the container placeholders for those three languages were for French, German, and Japanese (probably because these were the languages I selected rather than the install add all localizations).

Nevertheless, there is nothing more I can learn from what I know about InstantOff already.
