All in all sounds like a good machine. I just sold my Imac G5 Isight now I am deciding if I want a Macbook Pro or another Imac. There are so many pros and cons to both. Have you been able to test to see if microsoft office works well with rosetta? Thanks

i received my 20inch dual 2.0 ghz imac yesterday as well. it is my first mac computer and so far i am delighted with it. i do have one question though:
flip2mac does not seem to be working for wmv files. it says that my version of quicktime is not up to date [i need 6.1 or higher], but the imac came with quicktime 7.0. has anyone else had the same problem? is there a solution? thanks guys, i'm glad to finally be a member of this forum.

Run software update, the current quicktime release is 7.0.4. Also, ensure that you have the most recent version of flip4mac from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/flip4mac.mspx

They have been doing a few rapid releases of flip4mac lately. The current version identifies as v2.0 in the preference pane.

hey thanks for the advice, but i've done that already and it still won't work for me. i get this error message:
QuickTime version 6.5.1 or later is required to run Flip4Mac WMV Player.

Were you able to install the plugin but you can't run it?

Could it be that the WMV Player plugin isn't universal yet? Perhaps try forcing Quicktime Player to launch in Rosetta. You can do that via a checkbox in the Get Info window (highlight Quicktime, Control-click, select Get Info from the contextual menu). Just a thought.

Does your other Mac have airport? If so, just try that with WPA and that should let you know if it's the intel iMac or router.

I use WPA with my Linksys WRT54G (with my iBook) and it works great, no noticeable speed difference after doing tests (both "feel" and numerical tests). Actually, none of the computer in our house (mixed mac/windows) had any problems with speed after enabling WPA on the router and connecting.

Good luck and enjoy the new computer, sounds awesome! Glad to see that they're getting these shipping out in a pretty good amount of time as well. Looks good!

My 20" Intel iMac arrived from China today.

I'm just curious...why did you put in your topic of where it came from? Are you in Asia? Does this matter? Are there differences or something on where it was made or came from?

Just curious.

Would you mind telling us how long it took for your iMac to arrive since it was shipped?

Hi everyone! I'm waiting on my first Mac ever! :) Thought it was time to take on something new. Hope I can get used to it after using Windows for the last 7 years. I'm really excited about this. I have some concerns about porting some programs or finding equivalents, but I hope that won't be a major problem.

To get your wifi up to speed, try turning off bluetooth.
I tried turning off bluetooth and it made very little difference, maybe a few percent at most.

My first attempt was WPA-TKIP. After more testing, I found that both WPA-AES and WPA2-AES work at full speed. But WPA-TKIP is still 1/8th speed.

My other Mac doesn't have wireless for testing this.

My conclusion is that the problem is TKIP, regardless of whether its used with WPA or WPA2.

Good question. When I ordered it last week, I was disappointed to see in the shipment tracking that it was built and shipped from China, not California like the G4 I ordered in late 2002. The significance to me is that it does not help the US economy as much, being built in China, and that it would take longer to ship to me (I'm in California).

The reason they are built in China and not the US is that it's much cheaper. If you want to pay another $1000 to help your economy then so be it.

I've never had any problems getting a full speed connection from the WRT54G with WPA-TKIP on my Powerbook.

Good luck with your new iMac! :)

Congratulations on an excellent choice! I'm sure you'll see fewer problems with viruses, spyware, etc. You'll enjoy a quiet computer with a brilliant screen too.

I ordered it from the Apple web store on January 10. They shipped it via FedEx from China on January 13. It arrived here in California at 9:01 AM on January 16th.

As an addition to the original question, what was the shipping situation in regards to your "estimated ship by" date? Did it ship on that date? Sooner?? Later?

Please say sooner as I'm going crazy already and have an estimated ship date of the 23rd.

Get VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). That's a nice player that plays just everything on nearly every OS out there (though it looks a bit ugly on windows...). Should work nicely on the intel Mashines since its sleek in design and video playback is hardware render. I even used this to watch the last Keynote (in Fullscreen). Also worls for encoding videos for iPod...

Oh yea, its freeware by the way.

I ordered my iMac maybe a week ago and the estimated ship date was the 19th, it shipped on the 16th and is expected to be delivered on the 19th. Hopefully your's gets shipped sooner too. Mine was shipping from china because it had to be assembled there, (i.e. wasn't a default configuration from apple).

Also can anyone confirm if it has 802.11a? I was wondering if there was any speed issue using WPA-TKIP under 802.11a?

[Update] My iMac ended up being delivered on the 18th. [/Update]

Sooner! :) The estimated ship date on the order acknowledgement was 3-5 business days, and the transit time was estimated at 5 business days after shipping.

My order took 4 business days (6 including the weekend) from order placement to delivery here.

I think I received my iMac so quickly because it was not customized internally. The only change from the default configuration was the wireless keyboard.

Also, I really like the CD loading mechanism. This is the first slot-loading unit I have owned, and I find it much handier than a tray loaded drive.

I actually customized my order: upgraded to 1GB RAM, 250GB HD, Wireless keyboard and mouse

Placed my order on 1/13, shipped on 1/17 from Shanghai, estimated delivery 1/20.

1) Tried to boot XP twice with the "C" key down -- as others have reported, it doesn't work for me either. Given the intense interest in doing this, I think its only a short amount of time before someone finds a way.

It's "D" now, by the way. That probably still won't help though.
