I wonder what I would really need more than 4 or 8 cores for except for rendering video.

The Ableton Live audio engine is now multithreaded (well as of version 6). Some good performance gains being seen there.

Add that to the list of apps that would benefit.

Some of you need to use your imaginations.

Uh... not unless you were doing all those at once. For more cores to help with those things, the app you're using would need to be multi-threaded.

I mean't that multiple cores would be benificial for editing multiple pieces of data at once in multiple programs. I doubt you're going to have a snack while that HD video renders.
