I suppose in the end it all boils down to what you need and what you don't. For people who use their Macs for business, obviously it would be quite a poor decision to invest in any PPC technology at this point in time. But for your average computer user, I still stand by the idea that most of the later G4's and the G5's are all they need.

I myself use a 5 year old eMac with a G4 in it as my daily computer. Just a 1.42 GHz single core processor, and a measly 512 MB of RAM. But I don't need anything more then that. Just basic web surfing (No flash), IM'ing, iTunes use, a small amount of photo editing and the occasional game or two. And really, how many people actually do more then that on their new machines that they buy today? It just seems like a huge waste of money when you can get something four times cheaper that does everything you need. But hey, maybe that's just me. ;)

PPC machines are still great if you just need the basics. My sister has my dad's old iBook G4 and it still works fine for her needs (mostly web surfing), minus the dying battery ;)

Max the ram, upgrade to 10.5, upgrade the HD, and you still have a good machine.

They do still work for some people and handing them down for someone to get use out of one makes sense.

Would I use one - sure. Would I buy one - nope.

nicely said Cassie - i didnt even realise you were still around!! nice to see you here :)

..., minus the dying battery ;)
my dad has a G4 iBook, he recently purchased a battery for his laptop via eBay, it was about $50Aus ($45US) including shipping, he easily gets 6hrs from the battery. those computers were are amazing!

Personally, I need intel for a few things that I do. But I have really been wanting to get an old Quicksilver, because I love the style, and I just want a basic surfing machine to leave at home when I am away at uni

I still have no problems with my G4 all these years since I purchased it used. I put it through its paces pretty heavily on a daily basis.
