I just found this from earlier in the year

“Regarding iMac, the poster said that the 2017 iMac update will not feature major external industrial design changes. However, the pipeline for 2018 currently suggests a major update. The 2018 iMac revision apparently uses more glass and a dark black finish. It would also re-introduce the glowing Apple logo as a micro-LED panel.”

Altho I don’t believe the bit about the Apple logo as a micro LED panel glowing. I also wonder if the dark black finish part is the person getting confused with the iMac Pro?
I believe these rumors come from a reddit post where the posters claimed they worked for Foxconn but were later debunked. I wouldn't trust any of that information.

I wasn't too sure because at first i know the guy was ok'ed by Reddit but a couple of things did seem a little odd to me, such as the suggestion that the iMac was going to have a light up logo  however a couple of things were correct such as the Homepod description and the iPhone so i was willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

Personally i do hope they redesign the iMac, Apple tend to do so every so often it won't be drastic i don't think the last redesign wasn't (in 2012 when i got my iMac) it was made thinner on the side. This time around i'm not sure what they will do but it would be nice to see, especially since i'm waiting to upgrade.

I'm also hoping for a redesign. I'm probably going to upgrade anyway on the next refresh for a couple reasons but I'd rather have less chin and/or bezels than a big performance upgrade.

At this point the only upgrade that would really affect my usage is a nvidia GPU for deep learning instead of using AWS. I might have to go eGPU route for that...

I'm also waiting for the "pro display" along with a possibly decent Mac Mini refresh.
