Interesting finding about the ringer/silence switch

If you look at the ringer/silence switch on the left, you will see a little white bell symbol. Mine's a orange dot.

Just something interesting to know. What does yours have?

It will eventually be the same switch they use for iphone nano for recording functionality. just saving cost.

My wife and I both got iphones on the day they came out and her phone had the bell symbol. The phone seemed to function the same but after 7 days it somehow got a large scratch on the glass and I was forced to exchange it for a new one which now does not have the symbol. I was at the Apple store today in IL and none of the 5 phones I looked at had the bell symbol.

Wow that took it back because of a scratch! That is pretty good... I can't see many companions taking back something because it has a scratch on it! It rarely the companions fault your device has a scratch, no matter how big it is!

bell vs. orange dot

I have an orange dot and no bell. If you look closely at the picture the bell in on the top of the switch. The current position of the switch you can't tell if there is an orange dot or not.

i got my 4-GB on launch day and it is like the one pictured. i have the bell. i also have the orange dot. your choices are bell alone, or bell with dot. maybe it's a 4 vs. 8 thing?

I also have both the bell and the orange dot. Mine is an 8 gig model (with a 5-series LCD).

The bell is on the top of the switch while the orange dot indicates that it is on silent.

The orange on mine has a white dot pattern in it that I can see from 2 cm away, its not as bright as the as the 1 series bell, and its scratched.

If I pay $600 for something I expect it to be perfect.

Nevermind, I found it. I have a series 5 screen.

Bought mine on day one and I also have both the bell (on the top of the switch) and the orange dot (when it is put into silent mode). I have any 8GB with the version 5 screen.
