I remember seeing on some of the Apple press images before the iPhone launch that the switch had a bell on it. Actually, I thought it looked more like a button than a switch - perhaps to toggle between silent and ringer. I suppose it makes more sense to be able to distinguish the state by looking at the switch though.

I also have an 8 GB and it has both the bell and orange dot(for silent). How do you tell what series LCD you have?

Mine has an orange dot as well, but I am more interested in knowing how you can tell what kind of screen I have and what is the difference between a 7 series or a 5 series.

Dont. You'll just go out of your mind with all of the ridiculousness accompanying that discussion. Trust me.

Yeah I found the discussion and read the thread about it. People are way too bent out of shape about the whole thing. All I know is that I am perfectly happy with my (series 7) iPhone.

Mine just has the orange dot, but my boss's has the orange dot and the bell icon on the switch... we bought them both from the same store at the same time.... wierd.

Here is a pic of his... I took it with my iphone, was hard to get it to show up...
