Their profits on the iPad will be going crazy, and they wouldn't lose on that just for the hype.

Not exactly the most in depth financial analysis, but that's ok. So why should Apple care if they sell the ipad for $600 this week, or $600 in 3 weeks?

How do we know the EU delay isn't tied into to a pending price drop on RAM or flash memory from suppliers in the next 2 weeks? Or forecasted lower shipping costs? Even subtle fuel cost fluctuations could influence a ship date.

Only Steve & Co know for sure, but it's safe to say there are many factors involved in getting a product manufactured in massive quantities and shipped globally. Saving $1 per unit on a 5 million unit push is not chump change.
