It's dependent on iPhones/iPods AAC+ ADST hardware support. So you probably have to read the iPhone/iPod hardware specification.
We don't use software-decoding.

Hope that helps

I just downloaded the update and I'm really happy to say that AAC+ streams now work! Thank you for adding this capability, I'll be sure to write a review after I've had some good time using the application with AAC+ streams.

By the way I really like the straight to favorites option :)

Suggestions:
1) In the favorites list could there be something that shows which stream is playing if it's in the favorites list? I often use the radio in my car and looking at the app for too long while driving can be pretty dangerous.
2) Also on that note, would it be possible for the list to alternate background colors in favorites? For example Stream 1 background is white with black letters, then Stream 2 has a black background with white letters.

Price sells

I have not bought it and won't buy it. The price is too high. If that makes me a cheapskate then I'll be a cheapskate. None of the Apps on my phone cost more than $1.

Price sells, it's that simple. It's like the ferris wheel. You go to a carnival and you see the ferris wheel go 'round and 'round - empty. Why? Because it's $5 to ride. Me, I would rather make the price $2 and fill it then to burn the energy running it empty.

We all want to make a buck but you may only sell 5,000 of them at $5 a pop whereas at .99 cents a pop, you may sell 100,000 of them. Which would you rather have? Easy call for me.

When the price is a buck, I'll take a chance on it. Until then, sorry Charley.

Calm down me buddy.

eingrad put so much work in this and you want it even cheaper as he already reduced the price?

You have an iPhone, but don't want to spend money on apps. So that's ok, you don't need to buy it. - But then please do not make the app bad, because it's a great piece of work!

Yes I agree, this application is very well thought out and eingrad obviously put a lot of effort into this, even takes the time to read and reply to suggestions! I can't say that about any other radio app.

I have really enjoyed this application. I've listened to the chill channel while laying on a Migun bed (massage) and it's very relaxing.

I do experience the occasional "No Internet Connection" after about 35-40 minutes of use, but that's easily reconnected.

A great app so far!

Do you get those disconnects while you are using WLAN or 3G connection?
If WLAN is the case then you must use the USB cable to sustain the internet connection while not using the iphone.

Ah, I was on WiFi when using it. That explains that. Is this a built-in feature?

yep, it's Apple's feature to save energy and stuff.
In WiFi mode it keeps the connection for about 30 minutes or so.

have fun ;)

PS: it's a major problem that lot of buyers of such apps don't know about this feature and automatically start complaining about the app and give it bad reviews.

I haven't taken a look yet, but I want to see a radio app that has the ability to tap into streams available online from various radio stations. A lot of Atlanta-area stations have online streams in various formats, but the only ones I can use are in the AOL Radio app (all 3 of them).

I know there is probably some barrier to doing this (format compatibility, licenses, etc.), but I would probably pay $5-10 for such an app.

TIMER

Seriously I love the app, but I wish it would allow me to set a time for it to play. I go to sleep with it sometimes and if I could set it to 30 mintues and have it turn off I would LOVE it..

Right now I wake up to a dead battery.

One feature I think would be really nice is the ability to recognize if the iPhone switches from 3G to EDGE or EDGE to 3G, and then switch to a stream (same station) with a lower or higher bitrate based on that.

This is a plague of anyone driving especially the switch from 3G to EDGE. To remedy that I would have an ability to show how many seconds/minutes are in the buffer. Percentages on FStream are pretty much useless. I would not worry to switch a stream with lower bitrate but I would give the ability to pre-buffer 1-5 minutes prior to drive so the user based on the driving path could figure the optimal buffer size.

Some enhancements ideas ($5-$10)
- Option to pre-buffer 1-5 minutes
- Catch up to Fstream in terms of MMS stream capability and also offer support to WMA based MMS streams which Fstream does not.
- Ability to choose to cancel or skip the stream if can connect within x minute
- Force cancel stream connection
- Replace 'About' button with 'Search'

Impossible to pull off enhancements (priceless):
- Ability to save radio shows locally just like orb server with season pass (week, weekday, weekend) Tivo Radio :)
- Voice control of the application
- Support for Real Audio Streams
- Ability to restart after the phone call (impossible until apple recognizes backgrounder as a must have)
- Add support for Reciva stream database

- Real radio streams do stream their audio with constant bitrates which makes it impossible to pre-buffer ~5min without letting you wait ~5min.
Whats possible: to increase the pre-buffer size to lower the chance of buffer-underrun. Or Time-Shifting: but there we still need some limitations. Cause you simply wouldn't want to time-shift for few hrs when the whole stream needs space (a lot of space!) on your device.
- WMA/MMS: actually radio stations should offer all kind of streams instead of forcing people to use Windows Media
- don't get that force thing..
- RadioBOX already got it's search abilities

- Recording: considering the SHOUTcast contract, we are not allowed to record anything. As an responsible app developer, we think you would get a lot of trouble with other companies/radio owners etc. (otherwise we would have added it already)
- Ability to restart after the phone call: already supported

Hope some more things been clarified

Thanks for response. I understand that it would be impossible to preload 5 min without getting the prior 5 minutes from the radio station or waiting 5 minutes. 5 minutes might be exaggeration but all I am trying to do is to simulate the experience of the best streaming experience on the phone which is Pandora which pre loads music prior to playing. I will play with your pause/time shifting feature to see if I can cache prior leaving to work.

Problem with streaming in the car is no data. On my way to work I know I will have Edge/3G/no signal (less likely lately) spots but I would not know how much buffering would be sufficient. Do you have any idea based on your percentage buffer how many seconds that is?

I understand that station should offer more streaming option but sometimes this is not the case. In a perfect world all stations would offer stream in HE-ACC v2 24kbit/s to 48 kbit/s but they dont especially that because of money constraints the radio station relies on a commercial portal to stream and they think this is sufficient because it is using flash which of course cannot be played on iphone or any other phone.

Another issues is too that a lot of station in Europe dont understand that we here in the US can drive an hour each way to work and have $30/quasi unlimited internet on the cellphone, so my arguments often are ignored. Things are changing though.

Force cancel stream would be useful if the given stream has too many connection or is down. After two seconds I usually know that this stream wont work so I am stack waiting on it to tell me that it can't connect which sometimes it takes 10-20 seconds.

I think most of these radio apps are essentially the same and not worth the penny until one of them can figure out a way to stream WMA.

I have no reason to pay additional $2.00 for this app instead of Radio, even though Radio has way too many bugs.
