Even if it was, I guarantee you it won't look anything like pre-7 iOS. That era of UI design is over.
And to add to that, there's no guarantee you will like that refresh either. Chances are you won't. You either have to adapt or build your own damn OS! ;)

Realistically there would be no issue having a processor that would drop into low power mode when running on battery and running at full power when plugged into the mains and an external screen. Apple already have an effective iOS layer over the top of Mac OS X i.e. Launchpad. Apple already has iDrive sewn up so we are not tied to having large drives attached. We also have Swift and the ability from the App Store to automatically serve the correct app for the correct device.

Ubuntu are already doing this, albeit slowly but productively. I'm not talking about walking around using Mac OSX on the phone. I'm talking about being able to use Mac OSX when I have my phone plugged into mains and a monitor. It isn't me saying I want to spend less money on multiple devices, if that was the case I wouldn't have a laptop, desktop, ipad, iphone etc etc etc.

I also wouldn't presume that Apple would see this post, go "Yes, love it" and have it ready in 2 iterations. I'm saying that I think it may be already in production as i've been wondering for many years now why Apple hasn't moved on from iOS X yet and think they must be waiting for something big! We have already seen this kind of holding off on versioning to bring iPhone and iPad versioning in sync so I don't think it's too 'unrealistic.'
I agree however there has to be a need for this. The current iteration basically compensates for this via icloud and handoff so what would be the need...

Wasn't there a man that once said that combining mobile and desktop was like combining a toaster and a fridge? :D

There indeed was. I believe his name was George Washington.
No, by this I don't mean a Windows 8 release. More like a Windows 10 release. Where every device category has the same features, but every category has a different UI. It could work, we'll see.
And on an irrelevant side note, that emoticon that you put looks really creepy in inverted colours.

If you think they're 2 iterations away from merging a seven year old, lightweight mobile OS, with what is referred to as "the most advanced OS in the world", that has over 30 years of code/history, and that magically all the input issues (mouse/keyboard combo vs. touch/tilt) will be solved by then...... ummmmmm, I'll have what you're smoking please! =P
Seriously. Just no. You have NOT thought it through in the slightest, beyond your personal desire to not buy multiple devices for multiple purposes. iOS and OS X will be seperate products (& rightly so!) for many, many, many years to come! Speaking as to your dream/prediction: the best you could realistically hope for in the next five years or so, is a "convertible OS" device. Say.... a fancy implementation of Fusion Drive in a MacBook, where the HDD is on the notebook & the flash memory is in the screen.... which is removable, & when removed, becomes a tablet, running iOS. Running the same OS is not probable, logical, or even feasible.

Isn't this what the new windows phones are doing?

I'm expecting something similar to iOS 4 from iOS 3. iOS 1-3 was one, iOS 4-6 was two, and iOS 7-9 will be three. I remember iOS 4 changed the look of the dock and some icons, but it was a minor look refresh. I expect something similar in iOS 10 and a major look refresh until iOS 13.

I believe in a future where iPhones and iPad will be as capable as macs. Apple will make sure it's more convinient to own the mac of course. But I believe that in a couple of years from now one will be able to own an iPad wihmthou owning a computer. (Right now only light users can)

We don't really want ios and os x to be the same, we just want the same functionalities without having to compromise because we are on a mobile device.

Amongst other things ios needs...
a finder and a way to arrange files locally
3rd party access w/out appstore (like mac)
Apps that have the same options has their mac counter part

Lol....
Yeah. The new windows phones are going to run Windows 10, full version... exactly the same as runs on high end towers... & they will run the latest Photoshop & all other high end apps with no problems and everybody will somehow mimic the actions of a mouse with their fingers perfectly & there will be no differentiation from phones and desktops... the OSs will be identical.
No, wait. You're insane.

God i hope for a re-design. i never liked ios 7 design and still do not like it. Leather was way more premium/quality.
It still looks like a toy and too simple. Simplicity may be power, but this goes a bit too far.

You got to love people that jump in feet first.

Lol, right??!
Ordinarily I'm not that snarky, but that comment about about Windows 8 being identical on Windows Phone/Windows PC was too ridiculous to NOT comment on. Lol, there are people I guess that actually think Windows Phone runs Windows 8!!! *smh*

Never say never, they do on the mac. Why wouldnt that be possible on the iPhone?

It would be possible, that's not why I'm saying it won't happen. It's about the money. OS X App Store isn't earning them a lot of money, the iOS App Store is. Why would they basically take a hammer to one of their highest earners?

They'll either have to resign themselves before their competitors or after. Reality is its gonna happen could in 5 years maybe 10 but the reality is we want power and flexibility in the palm of our hands.

Who is this we? Most people who use iPhones likely don't care whether or not they can have third party app stores or download from something that isn't the App Store. Seriously, aside from a fringe group nobody has said anything about it. I doubt most people on Android even use third party stores.

except there isnt unless you are talking about that useless reversed color thing for handicapped people
Oh so it's a useless feature especially since it's only for "handicapped" people. Nice one there guy.

That's funny I use it at night and it works for me. Guess I must be "crippled" or something.

"We" is every power users out there already and the new generations of users to come which can be considered power users from the start.

Think back at the first iOS it was so dependent on the computer.. Slowly but surely iOS got more and more independent we got ride of syncing, pictures from the camera can be transfered directly to the phone, we can now print from our ios devices, and activate them without ever needing a computer, to me thats an indication of what Apple is going for.

I'm not saying third party access is for tomorrow but it's definitely in the future.

I do believe that one day the only distinction between mobile devices and computer will be their ease of use, but at the core and functionality-wise they will be as powerful. (At least as powerful as the computers we have today, who knows what tomorrows computer has in store for us.)

Lastly, I'd like to add that most people don't know what they want until you put it in their hands anyway.

It can be better than nothing, sure, but it's not quite what a dark/night mode would typically be given that it reverses all colors, not just white and bright ones, and also applies to photos/videos, which wouldn't be how those would be handled in a dark/night mode.

The example you bring up, about being independent of a computer, is not relevant. Apple doesn't sell a lot of PCs. They do make billions per year from the App Store. I don't see why Apple would do something to cripple that.
