iOS 10 vs 10.0.1

My iPhone 5 updated to 10.0.1, but others seem to have v10 with no indication their device needs updating.

What's the difference, why? Can there be unique versions per device? Or, is this merely the fix to the initial OTA kerfuffle?

It's the same build number. Different baseband firmware at most.

The iPhone 7 showed me the release notes from 10.0.1. it was a small patch (like 50mb) and it was mostly bug fixes.

sadly didnt screenshot it and the internet only shows the full iOS 10 release notes.

Wow! That is most interesting news in that (apparently) this update has yet to flow to everyone with the "auto" install feature enabled. Thanks for finding the notes and posting such, 'tis greatly appreciated!

10.0.1 is the official release. iPhone 7s came with iOS 10.0 installed, requiring the update to 10.0.1. That means there were critical bugs that needed to be fixed in between the time the devices were built and the release of iOS 10. First time that devices have ever received an outdated GM.
