Battery life is the same on my original iPad Air which is between 12-14 hrs of use. The only glitch I notice is that if I restart the iPad my battery usage timer disappears and is replaced by a dash mark.

The restart clearing the battery usage and standby times part of it has been around since iOS 10 days.

With my 7+ battery life is horrible: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-11-1-batter-dropping-as-i-watch.2083412/#post-25392331

Unlikely. The icon is location services. Not GPS. Often your iPhone gets an idea of its location from nearby wifi access points. It very rarely fires up the power hungry gps.
Actually, location services enables GPS as necessary on devices where it has the GPS chip. Wifi. A-GPS, or bluetooth when enabled will assist in the accuracy of the GPS.

As such, your battery strength will be reduced the more times the device needs access to location services : https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203033

I can reach 10-11 hours of usage on my 8 Plus, but never more than this (i read of people reaching even 14 Hours of usage) and in some particularly intense days I go down to 9-10 hours.
I have enabled localization only for some apps and only if that application is in use.
I triggered push Notifications for email, twitter, facebook, Tapatalk and whatsapp.

Can I ask you folks what kind of tricks you use?
Thanks in advance

On 11.2 beta battery usage more consistent than 11.0.

The newest version seems to drain at a steadier state rather than jumping from about 65% to dead as it appeared to be doing in the older versions. This is with an ancient iPhone 6.

Also no random restarts.

The medium% to 1% was insane. It caused me to send my iPtouch 6 in for battery/replacement.

Maybe I didn't need to but I didn't know what else to do as the 11.0x updates weren't improving matters.

This was the worst iOS point zero release for battery ever.
