I remained curious why the LG V30 was working perfectly while the iPhone X just couldn't remain consistent with the replication of Contacts.

When I had some time to set aside, I started looking at the contacts on the two devices.

I was embarrassed to discover that some of my contacts did have profile images attached to them, images that I never knew were there.

My devices take their contacts lists from about a half dozen iMap setups, one completely proprietary setup, plus iCloud and Google.

I just had no idea that there were images in some of these profiles.

Examining the LG V30 carefully, it looks like Nougat does not allow for the automatic attachment of these profile images, whereas the iPhone X with iOS 11+ will automatically place these images in the contact.

I've turned off a number of the contacts replications, and then went through contacts one by one and deleted all the tiny images that I could find.

I'm not getting too excited yet, but yesterday the car restarted several times with full proper replication of Contacts and everything was working fine.

So if you can't figure it out any other way, sit down and *look* at your contacts and you might discover you've got some images in there that you never knew that you had.

The iOS system should make it easier to discover these images, turn them off more easily, and delete them in bulk where necessary. IMHO.

I definitely have these problems on the latest beta as of 9/14/17

Contact names will not populate over numbers
Voice commands from Bluetooth HandsFreeLink no longer work
2013 Accord.
I have a 2016 Acura RLX and a new iPhone X and only part of my phonebook is syncing with the car.

You'll need to delete any photos that are embedded in your contact list otherwise the contacts won't sync up, same issue for me in my 2016 TLX.

Anybody else having trouble with iOS 11 and Honda and Acura Bluetooth systems?

I'm growing a little concerned after running through a few cars and finding several problems.

  • Low playback volume with stored audio
Low volume on Bluetooth calls making the call impossible
Contact names will not populate over numbers
Voice commands from Bluetooth HandsFreeLink no longer work

If anybody else is experiencing this, I want to urge you to provide Feedback using the application before we end up with iOS 11 being released in a version that is causing problems like this.

10.3.3 works fine but iOS 11 does not.

Multiple tests, multiple cars in a range from 2014 - 2018.
I can't speak to previous versions because I just bought my 2018 Honda Fit EX-L, but carplay is a nightmare. The whole screen blacked out once, most of the time the iphone is not recognized, and I spend every stoplight trying to get audio either through bluetooth or carplay. By then, I have already arrived at my destination. I would NEVER have bought this car had I known about these issues. Honda is already so far behind on technology (at least in the Fit). When I went in to have some accessories put in, the service guy said this is a known Honda issue and that it is particularly bad with Apple products. He said it isn't as bad with older phones, but with an iphone X, I will continue to have issues. I'm furious that I was not informed about this - especially so many people are having them.

Glad I came across this. DH is getting ready to purchase a new 2017 TLX w/Tech package. Going to play with all of the tech features to make sure things work okay. Are owners still having issues?

My understanding is that the 2018 TLX will have CarPlay, but previous years don’t. So long as the available 2017 tech works, we’ll be fine. Just hate to start off wrong with a new car purchase.

Are owners still having issues?

Yes.

However, the biggest problems, the ones related to Caller ID and the uploading of Contacts, seem to be solved for most of us as long as you are willing to go through all of your Contacts to be sure nobody has an image in the profile.

He purchased the car last night. When we were going through the introductory tutorial with the car specialist most of his contacts loaded. A few didn’t, but I wasn’t aware of the profile image being an issue and we didn’t compare what did and didn’t load.

The specialist said the update is to come from Apple, so we’ll see. The work around for now was to press and hold the talk button on the steering wheel to invoke Siri and have her dial the contact we wanted. That seemed to work for the little time we tried it, but we’ll be playing with it more this evening and over the weekend to know better. DH just wants his favorites uploaded for now. Most of his communication is with a few friends and family, so having his entire list of contacts uploaded isn’t necessary for now. The rest tend to call him as opposed to the other way around. I’m Driver 2, so its not urgent for my entire list to be uploaded to his vehicle either.

No problems with music over Bluetooth audio or calls in general. Nice sound quality for the included system.

Still, hopefully the issue will be resolved soon. It would be nice to have it all just work as it should.

For those of us who don't care about bluetooth, is the wired Carplay feature working properly?

Hi George,
I learned the issue is related to how iOS 11 synchs photos from another forum. Sorry I do not recall which one. However there is a work around, not a quick, or even an agreeable one, or even one I plan on doing, but apparently it works.

From what I understand the first contact which contains a photo will trigger the remaining contacts to not load. iOS 11 is not able to upload that contact's photo to HandsFreeLink.

The work around is to delete all photos from your contacts list on your iPhone. ARRGH !!!!! I just got my iphone replaced when the reseller broke the battery contacts on my iPhone 6 trying to swap out my battery. Apparently, that is Apple's solution at this point of the $29.00 battery replacement program. I was without a phone for 3 weeks and was looking forward to being able to use HandsFreeLink. Arrgh !!!!

I hope this helps. The finer points are beyond my technical abilities, but from what I read last night Apple finally admitted it was their problem.

~Apple (Tim Cooke) needs to show us how much they care, not tell us how much they care. ~ The hardware is the razor, their downstream revenue (apps, music, Apple TV, movies, etc.) is the razor. This is the second time in 3 weeks Apple has seriously affected me, and I am seriously considering transitioning to Android, so that I am not committed to one company.

Distraught and disillusioned

Hi George

Siri Eyes may be a better work around. Connect phone via bluetooth, to initiate Siri Eyes press and hold the "Talk" button, wait for the tone, speak your command. Tutorial video can be accessed here:
https://www.delrayhonda.com/blog/2016/october/28/how-to-use-siri-eyes-free-in-your-honda.htm

I did read some Honda owners were not able to access Siri Eyes. I am going to try on ride home tonight.

My Best

Anyone having problems with text notifications not showing when connected to 2017 Civic via Bluetooth? Since the last update, notification aren’t showing on my HU and instrument panel. No setting la have been changed on either device (6S+).

I have spent hours with this same issues reaching out to Honda, Apple, and my cell phone carrier since October 2017. The most helpful information I received was from my cell phone carrier. They actually kept me on hold while they contacted Apple Technical Support and discussed the issue with them. My cell phone carrier then reported back to me that Apple was well aware of the problem but that they would not be able to fix the problem until OS 12. Why, until OS12, I have no idea. I purchased my 2015 Honda Accord EXL so that I could have hands free but that's not possible if all that is showing up on the display is a list of phone numbers. Also, I'm not able to use voice commands to make a call which I think is a safety issue. Recently, I rented an Impreza and my phone is pairing just fine contacts and all. So to summarize, Apple is is aware that their current OS system will not display phone contacts no allow the driver to use hands free to make a call and they have not reached out to the Honda owner to provide support for the problem. Other than selling our Hondas and purchasing an Impreza, what can we do to get the problem fixed?

If anyone cares to try I have the latest iOS 11.3 beta and it is syncing properly with my 2015 Acura. Contact pictures are even showing up, which has never happened before.

With the latest update 11.3 beta 6, the contact photos show up and everything seems to be working fine on my 2014 Acura. I did get a 2018 Acura MDX as a loaner vehicle last week. I used the Apple Car Play using the wired USB connection. I was happy to see that it works fine. However, having used the Car Play, I am no more excited. I use Waze, Google maps, Chrome, Google music etc., on my iPhone X. None of these Apps are there in the Car Play suite of apps. I am thus likely to change to a Pixel phone in a year or two.

I have a 2013 accord and after ios11 update my car phone volume is very low and noisy. I have cranked up the volume, but I can’t get the volume loud enough. I have reset the system numerous times, talked to the dealer, relinked the phone- all to no avail. I have been forced to stop using the phone in the car. I too am surprised at the lack of support with this issue!
