I own an iPhone 7 Plus and a 2017 Nissan Maxima.

CarPlay worked like a charm on iOS 10.3.3, but ever since I updated to iOS 11 it’s been a bad experience.

It either doesn’t connect at all, drops connection constantly, or if it does stay connected for more than a few minutes, refuses to charge my phone. I use an official Apple Lightning Cable, so thats not it.

I’ve also tried resetting network settings, resetting my car’s audio settings, and turning Siri on/off. No change.

I also downgraded back to 10.3.3 and it went back to working normally, so it’s gotta be iOS 11.

Anyone with any ideas? I’m stuck on iOS 11 now because I updated my watch and don’t want to send it back just to downgrade its firmware. I hope there’s a solution out there besides waiting for iOS 11.0.1.

Thanks!

I have the exact same experience with the exact same car and phone.

Just saw there were a couple of threads about this started today... yeah this is very frustrating... it may not seem like a big issue to most, but when your gold master software release is pretty much another beta, something's gotta give. I hope a fix is on the horizon

It’s been broken like this for a couple months. I tried the beta twice and CarPlay was garbage both times. Figured it had to be good in official release but nope. CarPlay in my Maxima is the only reason I’ve been sticking around in apple land. If they don’t fix it soon I’ll make the switch.

It worked just fine on 10.3.3, so its this new software... And FYI, The Maxima doesn't support Android Auto, just CarPlay

I have a 2017 Chevy Volt and have not had any CarPlay issues -- iOS 10.3.3, iOS 11 betas, iOS 11 GM. All apps work as expected.

2017 BMW 5 Series and all still works well. Wish they would have made some changes to it though. Nothing except maps really changed.

Opposite experience here... I have a 2017 Honda Civic and car play has been almost unusable since I bought it which was very disappointing to me. It was bad enough that it could actually crash the cars whole system on a regular basis.... now with iOS11 it works PERFECT

I have a 2017 Maxima and CarPlay doesnt work 3/4 of the time since I upgraded to iOS 11 And when it doesnt work, it doesnt even my charge my phone either.

I have a '17 Civic too, mine always goes to 'device not connected' or is just a black screen while still playing music. Wish it would figure itself out... I blame it on the head unit being an android tablet lol ;P

I wont update to ios 11

Issues with CarPlay on my Kenwood after the update, rolled back to 10 and no issues so it’s clearly the update screwing with things.

2017 Maxima SR Midnight Edition - iPhone 7 Plus 256GB (AT&T) - no problems connecting, but battery discharge. Reloaded 3 times from DFU and problem is still present. Rolled back to 10.3.3 - no trouble at all.

I get there being an occasional compatibility issue with certain audio systems when a new version of iOS drops. But Carplay should never have upgrade issues. The whole selling point of Carplay is compatibility.

In my case iOS 11 has broken music and audiobook playback after making or receiving a phone call. The media plays but without sound. The only way to get the sound back is to pull the lightning cable from my iPhone and plug it back in. This started with dev beta 10. I have an engineering case open at Apple. I suggest that everyone with CarPlay issues on iOS 11 should contact AppleCare. Let’s deluge them with calls so they get on this and fix the problems ASAP. I drive a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Limited Edition.

I just had a chat with a Nissan support specialist. She said that Nissan is currently testing iOS 11 (testing is not complete) and so iOS 11 is apparently not supported yet with CarPlay in the Nissan Maxima 2017. They did not give any recommendations, but I would think not using CarPlay until it is supported or backing up to a previous iOS (i've never done that/ don't know if its possible) would be the only options until then.

Same here. VW Golf 2016, worked wonderfully. Now Siri will not read my texts, and the Mic Button on the steering wheel no longer works for Carplay commands. It's all BROKEN since iOS 11.

Bluetooth is a little wonky in my car as well. When I select a song on the playlist, it will auto refresh the list and not load the full playlist for a few seconds.

Yes, I called them yesterday (forgot to post this)

The specialist seemed genuine when she said that they'd received multiple calls on the issue and that they were in the testing stages of an OTA update... Unfortunately there's no indication of when we will get it, and when we do, there's no actual notification that it happened.

At least they're working on it though...

But my next question is, isn't that what developer betas are for?

Thanks for the information on this!

Curious how the OTA update will work in the 17 Maxima. Will it pull the update down through our phone or satellite connection? Not sure, but I hope that I don't have to take it in to the service department for this.
