iOS 11 isn't bad at all

On my SE with light to average usage i get 2 - 3 days out of it before it gets to like 20% It's very fast, and doesn't freeze or glitch
100% Screen brightness, with 4G on, and WiFi

my only gripe, is that HDR mode doesn't stay " On " it always goes back to " Auto " after 5 minutes and games seem to run the battery down

It doesn’t? When I turn it on it turns on the toggle in settings also. Are you referring to wifi and Bluetooth?

What do you mean? If you turn airplane mode on, then it is on.:confused:

In the control center, if you turn on airplane mode that really doesn't turn off BT or wifi.

As I recall that's different than the WiFi and Bluetooth toggles. The change with airplane mode is that it just remembers the last state that was used--so if the last time you used airplane mode you also then manually enabled WiFi and/or Bluetooth, then the next time you use airplane mode it will remember that that's what you did last time and have those enabled (if you disable those while in airplane mode or never enable them to begin with while in airplane mode, then the next time you use airplane mode they won't be enabled either).

Not in the control center.

For instance you turn off the BT in the control center, your Apple Watch is still connected

I am also very satisfied with iOS 11. But I also realize that I have either been lucky or am not running apps that have caused a lot of the problems others have seen. This just seems to be the year of the perfect storm for Apple, software-wise. Somehow, they've got to get their act together to avoid the bad PR they've heaped on themselves this year.

At the same time, I see a lot of reactions in the forums that display unrealistic expectations for a very complex software ecosystem. And I will, in particular, single out those who run betas and then criticize their device's performance, knowing full well they're running a beta.

Yes, but we're talking about Airplane Mode in CC, not BT. And toggling on my AM in CC sets BT to "Off" instead of "Not Connected".

wow that's pretty incredible, I've never heard of any iPhone getting 2-3 days of use.

Not constant use !
I mean each day, listening to an hour of music, playing a few games and checking emails every 30 minutes.
 
I’m also happy with not only iOS 11 but high Sierra is well. Yeah I have a few bugs, but not any more or less than I had before.

Over all very pleased with how my devices are running. Even have an original iPad Air with epic battery life and safari still running snappy. My iPad Pro 10.5” is literally only a hair faster.

I went from 10.1.1 to 11.1.2 and battery seems to get sucked up quick on my 7+

Other than that it’s not too bad but lots of little bugs

Luckily it’s a secondary device and I don’t recall 7+ ever having the most stellar battery. I feel like my SE still on 10.2 lapped my 7+ 10.1.1 in battery
 
I’ve been running the betas since 11.1 I think and have had no major issues at all.
 
Messages is seriously a mess. Keyboard disappears on occasion and messages come in out of order (the latest message shows before others). I don't understand how a regression like this even happens, iOS10 was perfectly fine with messages.
 
I am okish with iOS 11 but def not the one I love (I love iOS 9 more). iOS 10 overall is still better. But, I am using Apple Watch series 3 (now with cellular) so I can only use iOS 11.

The recent beta randomly freezes the app I am using (any app). This happens intermittently but annoys quite bit. Customizable control center ends up looking like an iOS 10 control center plus screen recording and low power mode.
 
iOS 11 isn't TOO bad now, but by version 11.2.1 (the 8th public version released since just September) you would expect them to have sorted it.

To me however good it gets, iOS 11 should never have been released how it was - missing features, unfinished, sloppy, broken basically (the usual bugs that you'd expect in any .0 release are forgivable). That's why for me iOS 11 is not great - we spend $700-$1000 on our iOS 11 devices, we have every right to expect a good experience as soon as we open the box, not "Oh it'll be okay by 11.3". Then what? You have a few months with it being okay until the new one comes out and sucks for a few months [repeat cycle].

iOS 11 sucked for 2/3 months, and is pretty decent now. That for me isn't a great OS. Great to me would be a consistently solid release, solid user experience, (NOTE: I didn't say PERFECT, but working), from day 1.

I don't have a lot of the problems many of you have (and I'll bet many of you don't have all of the problems that are recited in these forums on a daily basis). I will agree, though, that promising features and then being unable to deliver is a PR problem for Apple (though not an operational problem, as you still wouldn't have them, whether unveiled at WWDC or not).

Maybe Apple does need to go with an iterative approach. Underpromise for the X.0 version and then have 1 or 2 substantive point releases with new, fully-baked features. This is more or less what they're doing anyways. And if they don't announce a feature, that takes the pressure off them to deliver all of it in time for a new phone launch in September and perhaps frees up resources to polish the X.0 version.

This has taken on the aspects of the megapixel wars in digital cameras of 7-10 years ago: increasingly unable to differentiate hardware and meaningful software updates, the phone OEMs are increasingly adding marginal features with less value add. Not sure how they get off this treadmill. For DSLR cameras, it took actual competition from non-DSLR cameras (Micro 4/3rds and, increasingly, smartphones) to stop the constant megapixel increases. But DSLR cameras took a hit from that, in that they are no longer the aspirational devices they once were. I'm sure somewhere out there someone is working on a functional substitute for the smart phone. Can't wait to see what they come up with!
 
Performance on my 5S with iOS 11.2.1 is perfectly fine. Can't say I'm noticing a huge difference from 10.3.3.
The battery life was awful at first but a clean install sorted it out. My phone was manufactured in January 2017 according to the serial number so the battery is still in pretty good shape :)

However, some of the UI changes are flat-out awful and drive me crazy at times. For instance, the huge headline style text that appears at the very top of e.g. Settings or Messages is just ugly and misplaced imo. Also, the app drawer thing that they added in Messages is terrible. It's ugly, distracting and takes up some screen real estate. Some people might not care since it disappears as soon as you start composing a message, but for a neat freak such as myself it's annoying.
And the new Notification Center/lock screen is just weird - it doesn't make any sense. I really wish they'd go back to grouping notifications by app (iOS 6 style) - it was wonderful and gave me a much better overview of all my notifications. I also remember being able to clear all notifications for a given app which was useful for clearing out "xx liked your post" notifications from Instagram and similar social media apps. Finally, Control Center - I love being able to customize it, but the fact that it goes full screen and blurs out whatever you're doing in the background doesn't look very pretty. Also I think the overall design of CC isn't as clean as it was in iOS 7-10 - it looks kinda messy.

So those were just my two cents :rolleyes: All in all, it runs without issues - I'm still amazed by how fast and fluid a 2013 phone is today; one of the reasons I love Apple is the fact that older hardware is supported for such a long period of time - but the UI changes I mentioned above... what were they thinking?
