And also I want to be able to backup my ipad to any NAS via "time machine" just like I can do with the Mac...
Yep, no problem with Apple marketing the iPad Pro as a PC replacement, but at least add the missing macOS features and bring it up-to-par.

Yah I tried this last night and saw it working So fix is simple introduce a new notification sync API that gives developers access to what Apple uses, that's not difficult at all
[doublepost=1492357309][/doublepost]

You really think with having a Pro iPad line and having a lot of people complaining about certain parts of iOS on it that Apple hasn't been working on it for the Pro audience. iOS 10 gave iPad like zero love except safari so yah iOS 11 is like 99% chance iPad focused I'd say it's more a educated guess than speculation

That has been declining further and further, the iPad 4 isn't nearly as bad as iPad 2 on iOS 9 was. The trend will only continue with iPad Air and so on. The overhead of processing power will eventually diminish the performance loss over the life of a iOS device

Yes as I said you have nothing at hand to prove the point other than our shared opinion that iOS 10 was boring from an iPad perspective. I want to see changes myself but to expect that that would be Apple's focus is guesswork at the moment. Same as last year from a standpoint of information that we know for sure.

I completely agree. If you listen to the Ankve Avalon podcast, he reaches a similar conclusion. I don't think the cheaper new iPad is to clawback education buyers from the Chromebook. I think it's clear that most people prefer the 9.7 inch screen and Apple is now making it more accessible by lowering the price. I also think the 9.7 inch screen is much better suited for multitasking and other PC-like tasks. So the strategy is likely to boost sales of the 9.7 inch screen while simultaneously introducing new iPad specific features in iOS to begin helping people transition from the PC era to the post-PC era.

iPad Post WWDC:

iPad Mini
iPad 9.7"
iPad Pro 10.5"

That will be it. :apple:

You know Samsung made a video taking the mickey of Apple users saying next year will be different.

Accept that you can't share an OS but have it different. My 12.9" iPad 'Pro' shares its OS with my iPhone SE. Nothing 'Pro' bar a huge screen. It is what it is. I love Apple but lets be realistic.

iPad has a multitude of exclusive features unique to it alone not to mention the apps designed exclusively around its larger screen. To say it's only meaningful difference is the bigger screen is a rather shallow way to look at things . Although it is technicly true iPhones can do any task a iPad can but the larger workspace of the iPad allows for more meaningful work to be completed. If what you were saying held any merit Apple wouldn't be selling a iPad because everyone would just use iPhones for everything.

I am also excited for iOS 11 but there's nothing out there talking about it it's like a big surprise and only six weeks away from WWDC

No one is talking about it, because we don't know what WWDC is going to entail with iOS/watchOS/macOS. They're usually aren't any reports regarding what to expect during WWDC, primarily being its developer-based.

The statement that ios 11 will definitely focus on iPads definitely sounds like a guess to me, rather than something definite. And it definitely sounds like guesses I heard about ios 9 since it was the last major update before the much awaited iPad Pro.

The real estate is enough to buy. Think of the first iPad. These days 7+ users have little need to use the iPad.

I would never be without an iPad but I'm aware it's still a huge iPhone after all these years.

You may be correct, but I'd like to throw out an alternative hypothesis:

With the 12.9 currently MIA at Apple and 3rd party retailers (Best Buy lists the space grey wifi models as "not available"), I think it's possible that we're going to see a minor refresh in the near future. No changes to the design or internal layout, just a swap to the A10X SOC and possibly a true tone display. This means the device can be built without any changes to the production line, just swapping out the logic board and (possibly) display panel. The 12.9 is such a niche product that I doubt it could warrant any other kind of update right now.

The rumored minimal-bezel 10.5 will certainly get an event announcement. I could see both updates being presented at an event, with the minor 12.9 update available immediately and the 10.5 following a month or so after.

iOS 11 needs to have further independence from iTunes. We should be able to do whatever we can on a Mac or PC in iOS, as well. For example, changing the details of songs.

I have to agree with this. Lot's of little things you can do on macOS, but just can't do in iOS. I am hoping for a big shift this year.

Plausible. Just have a gut feeling that the new 10.5" is going to be more "Surface Like" than anything prior. I can't see that with the 12.9." But hey, these days anything goes. :apple:

Nope the 12.9inch isn't going anywhere
iPad
iPad mini
iPad

iPad Pro
iPad Pro 10.5
iPad Pro 12.9

Agree that iPad Pro 12.9" is here to stay. But my guess is that the iPad mini days are over. Like the MBA, it will go gently into the night...

I would tend to agree that Apple will ditch the 9.7" Pro in favor of the rumored 10.5" version. Something similar (minimal bezels) will also reduce the seize/weight or the iPad Pro 12.9"

My wish is for better keyboard/cover combos from Apple or 3rd parties make the iPad a better 2-in-1 device.

For me, the main issue with the iPad is the lack of easy file management Talking to an Apple guy, I guess we are supposed to use iCloud for our file management. I don't want to. But a revamp to iCloud making it more attractive, with better hooks into file management across iOS and OS X would make a huge difference to me. An iCloud update could be rolled out at WWDC with two new iPad Pros (I think they need to offer the 10.5 sooner rather than later as the 9.7 Pro doesn't distinguish itself enough from the much cheaper iPad right now). So here's to hoping for a WWDC refresh of both iPad Pros, a substantial upgrade to iCloud (free), and the promise of more integration and file control across OS X with the release of the new iOS 11 in the fall. Apple has always used software to drive hardware sales

I don't understand why any size needs to go away. I understand that the ~10" market is right in the sweet spot (Apple nailed that pretty well back in 2010), but why not keep both 7.9 and 12.9 for some niche markets? And as iOS (hopefully) becomes more pro I can see even larger sizes appearing, all the way up to the 28" surface studio size.

Try the devonthink app. It is the file system that iPad should natively have

I agree, it makes a lot of sense! And everyone has been requesting iOS enhancements for iPad for a while now

How quickly people forget that split screen was just introduced less than 2 years ago which is huge deal on ipad along with PIP video. I can be reading the news, watching a show and chatting with friends all at the same time. Kind of a big deal on tablets. And it all runs seamlessly on iPad Pro.

All thats really missing is Apple partnering with other companies to bring even more pro apps to iPad as well as FORCING all iPad pro compatible apps to have split screen enabled or they'll get rejected. IMO thats the biggest problem, aside form games ALL developers need to get off their butts and make their apps split screen.

Aside from that just a few tweaks like drag n drop and better multitasking app selection screen would tie it all together. Also I'd love for us to be able to make the widgets screen our home screen instead of the now ten year old grid of icons that looks ridiculous on a large iPad pro.
