Every night something in the background is working. But the settings app (battery) doesn’t show what. I only see that something in the background is using power for hours.

Do you think this is 'part' of apple's plan to get people to upgrade to newer devices?

or just sloppy coding / resource intensive additions / the way CPU ramps up quickly and back down to improve performance

That would imply your battery life has a screen on time of just 3 hrs.

Unless your screen is at 100% brightness on 4G with a very poor signal while multitasking, that doesn’t sound right. Probably not even then.

Unfortunately it is almost impossible to directly determine the specific cause of your battery drainage. But it is most likely some sort of bug/glitch with the OS. Typically, what I have observed that has helped iPhone battery life is clean installs of the iOS. Next time you have a software update, DO NOT install it through the phone (OTA), rather install it via iTunes on a computer (this applies to every device that runs iOS). When you install new iOS builds through iTunes, your phone receives a completely new, fresh install of the OS. I would 100% recommend this to all iOS users with battery issues. Hope this helps

iOS 12 has been the worse iOS to date when it comes to draining battery. My iPhone Xs barely lasts for 8 hours of light usage. The total crappy battery monitor is of almost no use either, bring back the iOS 11 battery monitor please.

This. My X with 97% health is even worse. I don’t think iOS 12 should drain battery on 2018 iDevices though.

I have the mysterious drain on iOS 12 also. It is intermittent, but seems to occur right after I take it off the charger (Anker wireless). When in this condition, it discharges 5% or so with just 10 minutes of use. The case also feels warm. I can then get the discharge down to a normal level by turning the phone off and then back on. No clue why this is happening. Perhaps I'll try charging with a cable and see if that makes any difference.

I got my battery changed (even though it was 6 months old and showed 95% health) and it’s made a big difference. I am getting 1.5 to 2 hours extra usage time. I will avoid updating iOS from now on. Go get your battery changed while it’s still $29.

Hi. I’d like some more info pls to decide what I should do.

Which phone was this? Did you check health using coconut battery?

How much screen time were you getting before/after the battery swap? Was it on iOS 12?

I barely use my iPhone XR during the day, off the charger at 7:30amand when i get home at 5pm I'd have 89% battery life left.

However post iOS 12.1.2 I now get home to 75% battery life left. No usage changes over the past couple of days.

Wow, people have been screaming and whining how awful iOS 11 was for a year and we got a huge improvement now. My battery use is fine although I do agree some aspects of the iOS 11 monitor were better - well easier.

3 (2.95 but rounded up) hours screen on time. Turned on LPM just now. Unplugged at 9:13 AM.

Not sure if this is great or not since I never track battery usage.

iPhone 10 on iOS 12.1

I went to bed 11h ago with a 20% battery warning being the last thing I see, wake up to 4% battery. 16% gone over standby in 10-11h on a launch day iPhone XS running iOS 12.1.2, that does not sound normal?

Looking at the battery graph I see a continuous drop even during parts where I most definitely didn't use my device for anything.

It happens every night I'd wager, but this is the first time where I had concrete battery percentages to report. I have a Watch S4 paired, my parents devices don't and they drain normally (but then again they barely use their phones).

What version was it on before ? 12.1?

I figured out the battery drain for me: Exchange ActiveSync in iOS 12. Once I removed my Exchange account and switched to the outlook app I got 50% better battery life. WatchOs5 is also wonky with many duplicate calendar events and missing calendar entries so switching to the outlook complication was an added plus. Everything works now.

Something must’ve changed in the Exchange sync code. It worked great in iOS 11.
