Except that it was clear the ECG feature would not be active when 12.0 dropped. "Later this year", I believe was the terminology. Happy to acknowledge if I turn out to be wrong, but I don't think so.
The new AirPods require watchOS 5.2. So it looks like we have entered the "devil's advocate" scenario. Those with new AirPods can't use them to full potential with their Apple Watch.

People receiving them and they are not gonna be happy. You would think the update would be released along side the release day. Unless something’s gone terribly wrong.

WatchOs is coming soon I suspect. I got an email from Apple regarding the changes in Apple pay cash. See below. Got this last night. It references WatchOs 5.2.

As a customer of Apple Pay and Apple Pay Cash, we wanted to let you know about changes coming to Apple Pay Cash with iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 software updates.

AirPower next week, I suspect watch os maybe tonight iOS beta Monday or Tuesday.
You know, it may be that WatchOS 5.2 is delayed due to regulatory approval for the ECG in the UK and elsewhere not being quite ready. It is such an otherwise inconsequential release, I can't think of anything else that would hold it up. I've seen almost zero problems reported online about the beta (and I'm running it and its been flawless for me).

See! I'm coming around to your theory. There will still be a significant announcement, likely via a local event (where's Tim Apple today?) and a press release.

It’s Apple they wouldn’t make that mistake. Be a really silly pr disaster if they did.
[doublepost=1553691009][/doublepost]I’m not to sure on event but I’m am swinging to a news release on their page. All twitter replies push people to their news page.

They may have told that the approval would be ready in time, only to find out it wasn't. Since the event was geared toward media and they had booked all the talent to appear, they were stuck once they sent out the announcement of the event (and likely well before then). Government agencies not always the best at meeting deadlines. I'm sure here in the US, the FDA was told by "top people" to get it done in time for Tim Apple. Apple would not have similar clout in the UK.

Is the USA they had approval 3 months before release I believe.
