iPhone IOS 13.3.1 update is awful

Newbie here, hello!

Just upgraded to IOS 13.3.1 on my iPhone 8 and it's made the phone virtually unusable. It's so 'touch' sensitive that I just have to look at the bloody thing and it opens a new page mid-typing. I had already had IOS 13 on it for a few months, so does that mean I'm unable to downgrade to IOS 12?

Did you update OTA when iOS 13 came out? I always do a fresh installation of all major releases via iTunes. If you do a full encrypted backup beforehand, it is quite a polished process by now and quite entertaining on a rainy weekend. In my family, I have iOS 13.3.1 running on iPhone SE, two iPhone 7, iPhone 11 and iPad Air 2 and cannot notice 13.3.1 being worse than 13.3. Try giving your iPhone 8 a fresh start, it should make a difference. ✌

iPad iOS 13 has made the ability of the display to correctly re-orient itself sluggish and occasionally non responsive. (ipad 12.9 gen 2 and gen 3)
The latest update seems to have negatively impacted cellular performance on all my devices running iOS 13.

Definitely fixed the most major one for us. The speakerphone issue went for eardrum shattering feedback to an occasional faint echo now.

I'm am too noticing 13.3.1 with really sensitive touch input response and jittery animations on my iPhone 11, Although I do admit apps launcher quicker on this version. I do miss how the OS was when I was on 13.2.3. Touch response was great on that version and no skipped frames.
 
love this slightly increased touch sensitivity.
really smooth on my aging iPhone 6s.
 
Put me down as another with touch sensitivity issues and wifi as well, though I'm not sure if that's my home wifi or the phone. On my iphone 8.

This update has also ruined my phone. I can’t even talk on my phone without Bluetooth and that’s only if I make the call and it rings more than twice. If they call it’s dead silence. YouTube and videos and voice messages work fine without Bluetooth. Every app closes constantly out of nowhere. GPS hasn’t worked since I got it pretty much. I really think this phone was messed up since the beginning but due to having 4 kids, I wasn’t able to go without a phone long enough to see what was wrong because each time they would say it was fine when I would bring it in.It won’t even backup to iCloud so I can transfer my stuff to a new phone. O yeah, the best part is that it hasn’t been backing up my photos since I got it unless I open the app and leave it open.

Try a reboot? 13.3.1 was solid for me, no issues (running 13.4b1 right now, which is why I say 'was'). It also runs clean on my wife's phone, my son's, etc.
 
13.3.1. for me. I didn't like the animations stutters, they were too much, nothing like I've seen before.

So I did a restore through Finder. Backed up on the Mac just in case, but then restored the phone and set up as new. It's a different experience now. Not that it doesn't stutter at all, but it is quite snappier and the stutters are few and far between. Also, a banking app that wouldn't push notifications through for me is now doing those notifications without a problem. Something that hasn't worked in months, through various iOS 13 versions, now runs fine after a restore.

Every day I disabled the auto-update because I didn't want 13.3.1. I like to stay behind so I can see if there are any issues.

I wake up and it auto-updated.
Completely unusable...


Does anyone know why my phone auto-updates when I turn it off?

Apple did this, as they remove the last unofficial method of stopping updates by invalidating tvOS 12 profile and preventing user from putting tvOS 13 profile on iOS devices.
They’ve gone way too far trying to force everybody into super buggy and unstable latest iOS.

Strange, never happened to me. More importantly, when the operating system prompts the update, even if we push “update”, it will ask us to enter our unlock code manually.

I’m not saying it’s not happening, and Apple could give us the option of not downloading the system updates automatically, but still, I haven’t had my phone updated without my authorization.

yeah the story sounds a little fishy, despite apple's sneakiness in general

You should preform the "reset all settings" option. That typically will resolve all sorts of strange issues folks may have. iOS 13.3.1 is running pretty well on the majority of devices. The reset all settings will not wipe your data or apps It WILL reset all settings, wallpaper and remove any ApplePay cards you may have setup but simply going back through settings and setting like you want is pretty painless. To be clear, I am not speaking of the the erase all content and settings option. Just the top option "Rest all settings".
