Still a lot of bugs to squash and they’ve got about five weeks to go before releasing the GM after the hardware event.

And we’re only on Beta 5...yikes.

Less than that if the event is rumored for the Tuesday 10th. Thats 5 weeks from yesterday and they wont release the Monday/day before the event. So really 4 weeks- 3 in July and first week of September.

Yes it is a bit worrisome as there are a ton of huge bugs still and mail app is still basically totally broken. I would be shocked if nothing comes this week still.

And not considering 13 has to be ready for the new iPhones. They arent building the GM still a day or 2 before the event either.

GM has to be ready way earlier than that!
Don‘t forget the new iPhones shown at the event need to be loaded with iOS 13 and then shipped from the factory...

Apple is able to load latest iOS updates onto iPhones remotely even through the sealed packaging.

How if the phones are not turned on?
I would like to know that, too.
And what about phones in containers on planes etc.?
It simply cannot be assured that the phones get stable (if any) data connection. And even IF they could get a connection: what carrier would allow Apple to „flood“ their networks on airports etc. for that?!? WORLDWIDE!?!

I don’t think it is possible yet. But would be a cool feature to make sure all new device have the newest firmware

iOS 12 had the GM released the day of the Hardware event last year on September 12th, with the public release on the 17th. The new devices weren't released until the 21st. Just to give you context, as it seems there was confusion. Also, GM tends to be signed off days before release, so really, there could be 2 weeks before GM approved and is loaded on the device before it gets shipped. They have GM on it, and sometimes that's why new devices get their own iOS update between GM and public release, to install when the user opens the box for a new device....

Personally, I'm not seeing any major issues now, compared to Beta 1. Mail is working perfectly. The only issues I have are getting media from my Mac onto my iOS devices, now that iTunes has been replaced by the new TV app (not fussed about Music or Podcasts, as I have Apple Music & Podcasts go on via subscriptions). I have issues with Books & getting Audiobooks over (just flat out cannot get audiobooks over at all!). Otherwise, I get the odd respring.

So I'm confident that any remaining issues can be sorted between now and GM. More releases doesn't mean more bugs being fixed, we could get no release for 3 weeks and all bugs fixed, or get 1 a week, with the same outcome.

Even if that was possible, it logistically would make no sense whatsoever.

“Let’s load these phones up with an old OS that was never designed to work on this model, package them all up, then upgrade them all remotely through the sealed boxes with no way at all of checking it was successful. That will save us loads of... time?

The GM is usually finalized and loaded onto devices 2-3 weeks (at the very least) before the event.

As interesting as that would be, that's not possible yet. Only carrier updates or disable commands work like this and the phone would need to be turned on and active on a network for a few seconds. Not to say in the future they couldn't find a way to accomplish this. More or less if they have power sharing on the back of the phone.. in theory they could just run the phone over a charging pad for it to boot up.. then run coding to allow install of software.. then shut down.. all while still in a box.. and even that would be risky since they are no longer suppose to ship phones over a certain % battery power.

I went back to iOS 12.4 through an archived iTunes back up but now when backing up to iCloud I get the following. Am I better off going back to 13?
You can delete the other iCloud backup and start over from scratch.
