Have a crazy battery drain overnight and have been sense IOS 14 released.

My record is 29% overnight. Have been testing to deactivate things overnight with various results.

One night with Bluetooth off it only used 4%. Next night with Bluetooth off it was 13%. Same with WiFi and/or battery save mode. Don’t get this problem at all

My drain problem started on my 11PM and when I got my 12PM I started it as a new phone, no backup at all but that didn’t help.

Really hoping for IOS 14.4 now

Hmm. I usually try to update to the newest version of iOS around Christmas time but looks like I’ll be waiting longer to jump off of 13.7! Maybe by 14.4 things will be cleaned up!
In the same boat. Can't even use my Apple Watch I got few weeks ago since still on 13.7 :(
Was hoping to update to 14 this week.

That's BS. That's seriously disappointing, although my 2020 iPad 11" on 14.01 seems to be fine. Scared to update that one any further for now.

The wired thing is that it seem to effect some phones only. Know a lot of people that’s on IOS 14.3 that don’t have this issues. And for me it’s seems to drain only at night, don’t see this drain in use on daytime.

Seems like my phone do things at night when the display is off, it has a life on its own so to speak .

Will keep testing things turned off to see if I get a pattern in drain over night.

Having issues with my 12 Pro Max and iOS 14.3. With Ford SYNC 3.4 the volume on the iPhone stays at full when I exit the vehicle. Did not happen on iOS 14.2.

Anyone else notice this?

Ah, got it. Thanks!

I'm finding that the battery percentage is lying since the update to 14.2.

I recently updated to 14.2 (not game to try 14.3 yet), after the update the battery wasn't great at first, ie, seemed to run down a bit faster than previously - but then - several days after updating, it would suddenly dramatically go down in a short time when I wasn't even using the phone. Read that this has been happening to lots of people.

So I did a bunch of things I've seen suggested, including hard reset, but still the issue, so I decided to follow other advice I'd seen to let it drain totally in the hope that it would reset things and solve the issue.

But - since yesterday morning, 24 hours ago, the battery has told me there's only 1% left. I've been using it on and off, to try and get it to drain, but busy with other stuff so I haven't done something like played 6 hour youtube videos yet, however if it really did only have 1% left I'm sure it would have fully drained out and died from writing a few texts, etc.

Anyhoo - here I am 24 hours later and the phone is still on 1%, and I'm still able to text. Thus I deem it's lying to me!!

Normally I'd imagine my battery should run out sometime today, or this evening. We shall see.

By the way this is an iPhone 6S with 88% maximum battery capacity.

Just to update on my previous post - my phone stayed on 1% battery for a few days, which included a facetime audio call, some texting, watching a few (very short) web vids while browsing.... it finally conked out last night well over 48 hours later, so I recharged it, put it in airplane mode and went to sleep and now, without doing anything on it since charging and sitting overnight it's showing 26% battery left.

I assume it's still lying and that I probably have the same amount of battery as usual but just can't trust what the battery percentage is telling me. So I won't pop it in the charger and will just see how it goes as per last time.

Edit to add: less than an hour after writing the above my battery was back down to 1% again, so - from 100% charged, left overnight on airplane mode down to 1% within 12 hours!!! The next step - restore as new, or just keep going assuming the battery is as per normal and the percentage is lying to me. I will test it that way first. I expect to be on 1% battery for the next 48 hours with only light use!

PS - Happy New Year!

Yeah there is something weird going on with the battery meter with this version! I'm still on 13.7 with my iPhone 7 and its working great. My son has a 7 too and I've updated his to iOS 14 to basically test it to see if its ok or not. And well it has not been ok. Ever since updating it his battery life has gotten worse and then when I checked his phone after I got off work late and go to plug it in its been at 1% just like yours for a few days now! I hard reset it tonight and it started back up at 38% and then began ticking down ever minute or 2 till it settled at 32%. Really strange. Also his battery health has taken a hit and dropped from 89% down to 83% within a month and this is on a battery that is just over a year old. My battery is at 87% and is well over 2 years old and Ive been using a smart battery case with it for since launch. So yeah I will wait to update to iOS 14. 13.7 has been so great for performance and great battery life. I feel like the best time based on years of experience is to update iOS is near the end of the cycle when all the bugs have been ironed out! So maybe around April or May it will be safe for me!

Bummer. But at least you know it's the software rather than the battery. Perhaps the drop in battery capacity is also just the software (hopefully). My battery's max capacity is still sitting on 88%, the battery is also 2 (or 3?) years old, so that hasn't changed (yet!!).

I usually wait before upgrading, actually I missed 14.1 altogether for battery reasons, live and learn! My iPod 6G is still on iOS 12.3 and will probably stay that way!

Could be a combination of both though. The only thing he uses his phone for (12 year old) is Pokémon go. So basically he is drawing the highest amount of power from the phone whenever he uses it all the time every time. So it’s like putting the pedal to the metal in a car every time you drive it then suddenly stop. Maybe his battery isn’t happy because of Pokémon go and iOS 14 changed its battery algorithm too.

I’ve noticed something annoying in the new iOS 14.3 update. When watching something on the Apple TV (e.g., Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) and then pausing the media with my phone using the play/pause function on the lock screen (or in Control Center) it reverts to Apple Music and doesn’t work for whatever app I’m using on the TV. It happens when using the Now Playing app on the Apple Watch as well. If I use the remote app from Control Center it will work properly with the TV media, but for some reason the Now Playing always reverts to Apple Music on pause. I don’t even have Apple Music running in the background or open in the background, it just shows a random suggested song.

I’m still experiencing the issue with “now playing” on the Apple TV and between the iPhone and Apple Watch. I have everything running the most up-to-date, non-beta, software. It’s got to be something going on with song or media suggestions when media is paused or there’s nothing playing. It’s gotten worse in that my phone and watch now often don’t recognize whatever is playing on the Apple TV (e.g., Netflix) and only presents controls for Apple Music content that‘s not even open or playing on any of the devices. In the video attached, I don’t even have that song in my library or haven’t ever played it so I don’t know where it’s coming from except an iOS media suggestion.

Anyone else noticing problems with the App Library? I’m seeing a buggy layout and missing apps. Before hard resetting, I had almost all apps grouped in Other. Now there’s nothing in other, but feels like some apps are completely missing in the folder. They do exist though when I do a search. Weird.

I had to bite the bullet and update to iOS 14.3 because my series 2 battery is crapping out so I ordered a series 6. Anyways this is morning number 2 of waking up to a very warm phone and quickly checking the cpu usage to find that it’s pegged at 100%. As soon as I unplug it starts dropping back down to a normal 5-12% idle.

What’s going on here? Will this end? Is the system scanning all of my photos and videos or something? Or will I wake up with a warm phone from now on with iOS 14? I literally just updated though my MacBook Pro 2 days ago. So maybe this is normal for this version. I just can’t recall ever updating and having a warm phone in the morning after updating. Maybe tomorrow it won’t be! Otherwise it has been fine. Mostly the same as 13.

Anyone noticed this glitch on the clock?

Not seeing it. Will wait for night and check again.

Update: Checked yesterday evening and real early this morning. I am not seeing the split color like your screenshot. Perhaps a setting we have that differs? Here is a new ss this dark morning...

For me it's not warm in the morning when I unplug the charger.

I have a very bizarre bug ever since upgrading to iOS 14.0 and continuing on into 14.3. I don't use Apple Music but still sync my music the old fashioned way through Music/Finder. I will often make my own compilation albums of non-album tracks, remixes, B-Sides, etc. I've noticed for a few different albums that they will show up bizarrely on my phone even though tagging and everything is fine within Music on MacOS. Here's an example of exactly what I'm dealing with. Let me know if I can provide any more details.

I wanted to follow up my previous post showing that this isn't an isolated incident with regards to a custom made album within Music. In the following example I've had this album in iTunes since 2010 and can confirm it's showing up like this ever since iOS 14. Anyone else having an issue like this? There doesn't seem to be any way to change it back even if I change metadata (artist name, album title, etc)

Album as it appears in Music on MacOS

Date added/modified shows 2010/11

Metadata shows grouping and tagging all correct.

As it appears on my phone when looking under Artists>Black Strobe>Burn Your Own Church. Track 9, the only track shown here is labelled as "electronic" which is not the name of the song and not even the genre.

When searching all songs show up under search by Black Strobe?

iOS 14.3 and iPad OS 14.3 have mostly been fine on both my iPhone 11 Pro Max and 2020 iPad Pro 11” until the last week or so, I have had a few resprings on my iPhone and about 15mins ago my iPad Pro had a respring to, very weird. I have never had a respring on my iPad Pro not since getting it middle of last year.
