Hey all... same issues here, and iOS 14.0.1 has NOT fixed them at all. I've tried deleting a bunch of apps, rebooting ad nauseum. Any other suggestions??

I had the same issue.
iOS 14.0.1, set up as a new phone (not a restore from backup).
Struggled for few days, tried everything found online, with no luck.
While playing around with settings, found that disabling Content & Privacy Restrictions resolved the issue.
I had Content & Privacy Restrictions enabled to prevent accidental app deletion.

If nothing works for you, try this:
Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions (turn it off)

Hope that helps

I figured out how to search for apps. If you go to the last page of your home screen where it shows all the apps, you can search there. I know it’s not as easy as spotlight search, but it’s better than having to find your apps manually. Hope this will help some of you guys!

Nice suggestion. I did see one post suggesting this when I was researching originally but I disregarded it since I’ve never used content restrictions or even considered it. Thankfully everyone’s issues look fixed!

Anyone having residual issues or things they think might be related to our conversations? My apps seem to be updating quicker (see my previous post regarding app updates not loading without refreshing) and things seem to be running faster!! So happy I chose to erase all and start over, but it is indeed annoying having to re-sign in to all apps that didn’t have backup set up with iCloud...I hadn’t had enough space to even bother trying to backup to PC.

Hi. I’m having this issue and just reported it to feedbackassistant.apple.com
after spending 30 minutes on the phone with an apple representative who couldn’t tell me anything.
He pretty much came here and read off what u guys were saying.
He said that maybe if enough ppl report it...
But I see someone got the 14.2 beta - how do I download that???
Mine says 14.0.1 and “up to date”.

Thanks. I’m on 14.2 the public beta version and still having issues. Nothing is appearing in my search results when I try to look through my files.
I’m on the latest 12.9” iPad Pro.

Hi all, my device can find apps after upgrade to 14.0.1 but it doesn't show any files. Anybody with the same issue?

Rag Tag solution for me until Apple fixes the problem and my final update on this issue:

Since updating to the newest public beta version didn’t help, I thought about the problem and figured it was just a simple matter of file association. So I transferred all of my files that were in my procreate program over to the downloads folder then transfer them back.
I did a search and then it started to pick up on only a few of the files.
But as it was starting to populate the results field my screensaver time out thing turned the iPad off.
So I turned my time out to “never“ and I did it again, transferring all of my apps files to a downloads folder on the iPad and then returning them to the procreate app.
And this time I let it run for about 20 minutes until it found every file which was about 30,000.

It’s running fine now. I hope Apple comes out with an update soon that satisfies everyone. I don’t even understand how this could happen seeing as how I’m on the absolute latest version of everything and honestly the only reason I bought $1500 worth of Apple in the first place was for the $10 procreate program so I could draw. I was seriously considering returning this iPad. It’s brand new and I don’t have much on it at all.
This is my first Apple product and I’m very disappointed.

Checked this out by copying files from the original folder to downloads and then back. Now I have two copies of same files but none appear in spotlight search.

Update: 10 days after iOS 14 update the files suddenly started to appear in spotlight search.
I suppose that iOS needs some time to reindex the file system.

Next update:

I updated another phone to iOS 14 and observed the same issue. Nothing helped. I waited about 10 days and then files began to appear.

So folks if you miss smth in the spotlight search you may just wait, probably iOS get everything reindexed.

This is still broken even in the latest public beta. Tried all the recommended solutions (apps=208, change language, change region, updating to 14.0.1, 14.2, etc.). I found the cause and can replicate the issue. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about turning off content and privacy settings, which worked...but I dug a little deeper to find the exact setting that was causing the issue with the devices in my family.

The setting was at screen time->content & privacy restrictions->content restrictions-> music videos
If the music videos=off then the spotlight search doesn't work to find apps (i.e. Mail, Amazon, App store).
If the music video=ON then after 15 seconds the spotlight search works again.

Tried turning it off again and the spotlight search stopped working again. Sharing in case it helps others.

Damn, now on one device files disappeared again from search results. Without any changes to the configuration!

I just got my iPad Air 4 today. There is NO Spotlight search anywhere. It is not showing from a center down swipe (that shows notifications w/o searchbar). Swipe right to widgets there is NO search bar at the top. It came with iPadOS 14.1, upgraded to 14.2 and I have the same issue.

I'm seeing people saying that the search doesnt give results... how the heck do you get a search bar in the first place? As this is a thread for both iPhone and iPad maybe iOS 14.x is seeing a different issue where there are no search results but I am not able to find a fricking place to put search text into! I have an iPhone on iOS 14.2. Swipe right until in the widgets screen there is a search box. Swipe left on the last screen and there is the App Library... why the heck they didnt put that in iPadOS I'll never know.

None of the above fixes my issue (assuming the iPadOS one is the same) i just bought this thing today... do I really have to install a beta to have this basic functionality?

From the very beginning of ios, 14 betas the whole spotlight/Siri suggestions thing is a mess for me.

I had it on my iPhone 11 pro max, now I have the exact same thing on the new 12 pro max. When I swipe down, sometimes it's working - I see my app suggestions, some occasional content below suggested by Siri, and the search seems to work fine too.

But then suddenly it just breaks and when I swipe down I see NOTHING except for the SEARCH BAR, and just when I type something in - all the apps and suggestions are back! When they should be there in the first place, after the first swipe down!

It's ridiculous that Apple can't fix still, and I've tried everything - all kinds of resets and restores. Also, I have a new phone, god damn, why should it be broken.

ios 14.2.1 - still no luck, it's still disappearing from time to time. Very annoying. Seems to work fine when you keep your phone completely stock with Apple only apps. As soon as you start installing third-party apps - the problems start to emerge.

Anyone had any luck in a similar situation?
