Very happy with my 13 mini's battery life, which has been even better since 15.4. Just wait 6 months before updating to iOS 16 next time. Because Apple wants to keep pumping out features, this is about how long it takes them to fully address things like bad battery and other bugs. Even with 15.4, there is still disproportionate CPU use when streaming Apple music resulting in bad battery life for the day, which doesn't affect me because I don't use.

I'm not sure if it was an OS update, but my battery meter is a constant downhill slope, even without me using the phone.

I did a complete restore and still have the same issue. It is driving me insane trying to work out why. If it is the OS, then I'm happy as it might mean its fixed soon

iPhone 8 Max, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPad Pro 2018 (12.9) and iPad Pro M1 (12.9) all run like champs on iOS 15. All devices connected to individual iCloud accounts in an iCloud Family. Apple One Family membership. Good mobile coverage and fast broadband at home. Been a very long time since I've seen any lagging in the OS tbh.

I'm pretty sure now that it's the Battery Level readings that are wrong. I have a whole thread here about it, but just last night I went to bed with 40% and woke up to 16%. Ten hours later, it's still on 16%. I've also been running the battery right down to 1%, and had almost 24 hours use at that level.

[Edit: removed s/w quality rant.]

In addition, the quality of Apple's software these past two or three years has been in steady decline, and their ability to avoid regressions appears to be nil. Given that regression testing was common over 40 years ago, and testing software is now (at least) a hundred times better than then, this points to a systemic issue within Apple. I suspect they're aware of this, and have chosen their preferred course of action.
I might let it run down and see what happens.
I've had a phone where it hit 1% and stayed there for hours, but that battery was on the way out. This one is quite new.

As a software dev, I won't comment on the difficulty of testing :D !

You might need to try a battery recalibration. Do it 2 times in row. Run it all the down until shuts off and leave that way over night. Leaving it in the shutdown state will make sure the battery is really depleted. Then charge all the way to 100% and leave connected to the charger for about 2 hours. Remove it from the charger and then do a second run of the same thing.

Thanks - I decided to do this as my battery died on me, so why not. I didn’t leave it run down overnight, but still, it’s improved things. The battery still drains but 2x slower than before.

I’ll try and run the battery down and then leave it overnight and hopefully that helps a bit more.

Still nowhere near the performance I had a week or so ago before it went funny.

As an update. This didn’t help.

But eventually a few days later, all of a sudden it went back to normal.

So far. YES
I'm really really disappointed by iOS 15 performance. But maybe there's someone here who proves it's just me who is the problem. And this rant is way out of line...

I don't say this lightly but the amount of bugs, the sluggishness and especially the battery drain make me mad and wonder: how can I get out of this mess that's iOS.

So far, my:
- iPhone 12 mini (5G,4G dual sim Vf NL and KPN NL)
- iPad mini 4 (4G VF NL)

In my family
- 1x iPhone 12 mini (4G carrier Vodafone NL, single sim)
- 2x iPhone SE 2016 (different carriers)

...all drain their batteries -even with NO use- within a day/overnight
...turned into sluggish monsters, especially the iPad mini 4 I use as an e-reader is dead slow now.

What I did so far on my iPhone 12 mini was switch off almost all background activity, even removed apps, reinstalled iOS, rebooted, checked battery use per app...you name it.

But what really makes the case is that my family members living in other places and with completely different use cases have exactly the same problems. I don't know what's happening in the background but what I do know is that my 82 y/o dads SE (2016) (he hardly uses(!) and has 94% battery quality used to drain in 2 days and now drains overnight. My own SE with very moderate use is empty before the day ends.

In the meantime an old iPad mini and iPad 2 on iOS 9.1.3 just sleep there for weeks before they are even remotely depleted.

So does someone actually know what's really going on with iOS? Is it the CSAM algorithm? Is it iCloud phoning home all the time.? Is it AdGuard Pro's fake VPN (no I would say my family members don't use it).

Please enlighten me, show me the way, keep us away from the dark side or start a class action lawsuit with me.
I guarantee you it’s not. Let me guess: you have 5g on.

iOS 15.4.
Affected devices: iPhone X, iPhone XS, ipad pro 12.9, gens 2 and 3.
All was well for a week after the download.
Then:
Safari crashes.
Notes crashes.
Battery life plummeted.
iMessage unreliable.
...and Siri...hehe.

Nope for me none of this issues. maybe u should do a complete reset via DFU and refresh iOS. That can solve many issues. Sometimes Updating can cause funny bugs where as if u refresh iOS via DFU it doesn't have the issues

None of that on two 12.9 iPad Pros, one iPhone 12 and one 13 Pro Max. Other than a couple of annoyances iOS 15 to 15.4 has been a great experience. Crashes? Yes occasionally an app will do that in every iOS ever released.

Don't see any of these - 2021 12.9, Air 2, Mini 6, 12 Pro Max.

In general a good advice, so that's what i did when i started this thread... (twice)
A dfu brought back a bit of battery life and some insight in per app battery usage. In general battery life on smaller and older devices seem sub par.

On 12 mini my wife's battery life is slightly better but she has a 4G plan while i have 5G.
Apart from that: the drainage occurred on multiple devices (not capable of 5G) like SE1 and ipad mini 4 4G and Air2
It is still quite shocking to see ipad 2 and iPad mini last day's when hardly used and mini 4 losing 30-40% a day for instance.

My 12 mini lost 20% in 2,5 hours, giving it a daily life from 7 until 19:30 (750 minutes) which is/feels just too short (and it's pretty much normal for my use case:browsing MR :), signal/Wapp and a few calls)

After months:
Although with all kind of 'Spartan'/bare/minimal installs and background tweaks i could squeeze maximum life out of it i decided to install apps back when needed and not focus on the background usage.
After all: why cripple my quite new phone because Apple does or didn't have its energy management under control? Or doesn't care.

Where I am now:
1. Is definitely NOT one app (although WhatsApp even when not used on screen uses a lot) but socially removal is not an option.
2. It's most certainly the OS/all apps together being constantly busy on the net when not used.
3. 5G definitely is a factor, the OS should switch off 5G while asleep if it does not do so already
