I highly doubt there will be a fix from Apple before mid January. I’ve been waiting since end of September. Apple is already on 17.3b1 so it’ll be a while before that is public release and the best we can hope for is 17.2.1 bug fixes but that won’t come anytime soon I suspect.

I know the unit can work. It was 100% perfect for one day after 17.2 update and then bug is back.

Here’s another complainer who posted a video

Apple! Fix this!

Before IOS 17 came out in September, for how long did this work reliably for you?
All the time 100%. iOS 15 and iOS 16. Same car. Flawless car play. It’s definitely a bug in iOS 17

I’ve been searching for a CarPlay fix for my 2024 Lexus NX 250/ iPhone 12/ iOS 17.2.1 and found this thread so I’m glad to know it’s not just me. Everything worked fine for a couple of weeks in September when I first purchased my car. It seems after the most recent update, I too cannot send texts. It’s the same Siri song-and-dance that others have mentioned. I’ve tried everything, talked to everyone, took car to tech specialist at my dealer. I’m frustrated and I realize I spend most of my drives arguing with Siri. I did not have CarPlay capabilities in my last car and almost miss the simplicity… do I just wait with fingers crossed for a new update? I know I can live without what’s supposed to be a convenience, but still, it should work as advertised.

I actually ended up upgrading to a higher end pioneer unit that doesn’t have the same issue. Siri works perfectly now, but of course Apple could come out with an update that could break it again.

Here’s another thread with a bunch of other people with the same issue

I did read on another thread someone with this car play issue saying 17.3 b1 fixed it. I’m waiting for public release 17.3 and hoping it’ll fix this once for all

Hey all, I’m excited to finally get to the bottom of this. Listen Tim and company you have possible exposure here, it is dangerous for my wife to have to look down at her phone while trying to send a text with Siri.

Wife: new 2024 Lexus 350, small screen, hybrid infotainment system with touch screen but the same manual climate control buttons as her previous 2021 model. Just updated her phone to 17.3.

My 2024 Lexus NX 350 has the 14” full size screen with all touch controls. My Siri messaging has been flawless. My wife’s car has the exact same issues as described throughout this thread. Her car is at the dealership now and they are dumbfounded.

Please everyone we need more data. Car, year, type of infotainment system. Hopefully as I have just seen here, 17.3 fixes it, we’ll see. Thanks.

Lexus NX 350h 2022 with smaller size screen. Same issue with Siri and texting. Been to Lexus numerous times and they have no idea. Tested my phone with iOS 17.3 on one of their cars with 2024 Lexus 350 small screen and issue STILL happens. 17.3 does not fix this problem.

I’ll go back and try one of their cars with the larger screen.

Lexus told me they have had numerous customers coming in with this problem and Lexus have reached out to Apple. Apple told me it’s a software problem and wait for update.

Agree. This is unacceptable that this has been going on for 4 months with no fix

Ok folks, I figured it out especially as it relates to Lexus cars with the older infotainment systems. My wife and I both upgraded to iPhone 15 Pros, me the Pro Max. I started as if bluetooth might have been an issue, so with the new phones unpaired and bluetooth turned off on both phones, I directly plugged into the USB data outlet and installed Car Play that way, like it was in past wired Lexus cars. Damn, after I invoked Siri and requested a message be sent, there was no difference. After Siri began saying "what do you want to...." everything became busted and truncated. That was when I noticed the Lexus microphone icon in the upper left of the screen turning on and off. It does not know when to remain off as verbal instructions are being given to Siri. What's happening is Siri goes into an internal feedback loop! The workaround is as soon as your Siri command is verbally invoked, you hit the back arrow next to the mic icon forcing the Lexus mic to remain off or disappear. You will not hear the verbal feedback from Siri but she gets it right every time. When the send button appears, you either tap it on a touchscreen or say "send." This only affects outgoing Siri messaging, there is no problem with any incoming messages. Phone calls are not an issue because the mic remains open all the time. it's only when Siri is engaging with verbal feedback and the Lexus mic does not know what the hell iis going on. It does not affect MY 2023 NX infotainment system because that car has the newest 14" touch screen system with climate control. No mic icon ever appears. On my wife's new ES 350, that car has a bastardized hybrid head unit with a small 7' (new tech) touchscreen but... the climate control is still the older car manual push buttons. I had this issue with older Lexus models before they went wireless. Bottom line, this is a LEXUS PROBLEM, it is NOT APPLE or the current IOS. I have reported it to Lexus in the hopes this gets looked at.

Latest iOS beta 17.4 (21E5195e) resolved the issue. Now when Siri is speaking, the orange dot for the microphone turns off, and when you speak the orange dot for the microphone turns on. Previously the orange dot for the microphone would stay on while Siri spoke, which resulted in Siri hearing itself. For two days now the error is completely resolved.

This is encouraging! Shows it is an Apple issue. Debating now whether to hop on the beta 4 bandwagon or wait for public release 17.4.

This thread shows lots of people with same issue. Hoping 17.4 fixes it. Look further down this post- seems 17.4 b4 has the fix in it so it might not be a Lexus issue at all

Lexus sent out a software update for my Lexus NX 350h 2022 today. I installed it. I also disconnected and reconnected my phone and car play via wireless Bluetooth connection

The Lexus software update does NOT fix the texting car play issue. This confirms it is an Apple issue and hopefully 17.4 will fix it.

Another poster on this thread said it is fixed in 17.4 b2.

See you get the Lexus software and if corrects the problem for you.

2022 NX 350 with smaller screen. This worked fine for me for 1yr+ until semi-recent iOS updates like others in the thread. Clearly there is something off in the integration between CarPlay and Lexus head units.

I’ve been able to recover the broken functionality by entering the messages app in CarPlay and clicking on a name instead of invoking Siri with the steering wheel button or holding the CarPlay “home” button. When siri doesn’t read the message back to me I press off to cancel and try again.

With that said I’m finding is that if Siri successfully says “what do you want to say to _” when clicking on their name in the messages app then it will actually transcribe and send your message instead of sending “what do + random words, even if it’s doesn’t read the message back to you. This is obviously a problem for more complicated messages than something like “on my way”.

I can assure everyone that Apple fixed this problem. I have been running beta and each time it updated I was hopeful it would fix the issue. Finally the latest beta release fixed it. You can either wait for the public release or go beta now.

Does your Lexus NX have the smaller size screen? Approximately 9 vs 14 inch screen?

I heard iOS 17.4 public release will be before March 6.

I installed 17.4 on iPhone 15pro. I have a Lexus NX 350 2022 with the smaller size screen. Sending or replying to text messages via Siri is still not fixed!

I tried to forget car and phone and reinstalled both and it made no difference.

I’m so disappointed with Apple over this

Really glad to find this thread. I'll jump on the bandwagon... I have a brand new Toyota RAV4 with the 12.3" screen. Siri appears to work for almost everything except sending a text. It garbles what I'm trying to say every time.

I have up-to-date software in the car (according to Toyota), and an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.4. It will read texts OK. Just not reply. I can add reminders and such and that works OK. Today I was trying to send a text to someone and I finally had to give up and just call because I couldn't get it to send a message that made any kind of sense.

I traded in a 2012 Prius in which sending texts worked flawlessly.

Sorry all, 17.4 had NO effect. I’m say again, two open microphones (Lexus and iPhone) are at war with each other, with the newer infotainment systems on Lexus/Toyota vehicles, 14” screens, there is no problem because the native Lexus mic is not on. On other models that have the new and old infotainment systems combined, the native car mic does not shut off, it has to be manually turned off on the fly so as not to interfere with Siri. This is a Lexus issue. If there were a setting where the native mic can be permanently disabled in the Lexus software, problem solved. As of now it cannot, don’t expect Lexus to do that. The native mic is there for drivers that do not use their phone with the car, these drivers are using only the built-in vehicle voice system.

I "forgot" my RAV4 and set CarPlay up again. It will now send a text correctly. But it won't read the text to me before sending it. It says "OK it says" twice, but instead of reading the actual text there's just silence. Now I guess I just cross my fingers that the text isn't gibberish.

I have a Lexus 2022 nx 350h with the smaller screen. CarPlay worked flawlessly including sending and receiving and replying to messages in iOS 16. Apple have admitted that the current issue is a software problem on their end. It’s not Lexus or my iPhone 15 pro. Definitely a bug starting in iOS 17 and has not been fixed yet
