I don't see anything wrong.. everyone needs to sleep at night 🙈😅
I agree, makes me think that maybe Apple should introduce a schedule option for "low power" mode that the user can enable, that is IF it has any big impact. Would be nice if Apple did provide a in depth explanation of what services that low power mode adjusts and what impact it might it has.

Reason for asking is also to get a fair comparison. Its tricky to get compare as we all use our phones differently making it nearly impossible to anticipate battery life.

Overall it would be nice if Apple provided more detailed info on updates instead of us having to guess most of the changes. And not talking about added features but more "under the hood" changes.

I have a Shortcut that runs in Focus mode that sets low battery mode at 22:30 until 07:30. As you say, I don't need my iPhone 15PM at full performance 24/7. But I don't want to switch it off just in case I get an emergency call from a relative/friend.

Upgraded to 17.6 when it was available, so indexing should have settled by now. I’m essentially getting 7 hrs screen on time and 4 hrs screen off time on my 15 Pro Max. I don’t even know anymore if this is any good 😅

Guess it depends on what you do, what type of connectivity, apps, brightness on the screen, weak or strong signal, peripherals connected etc. The battery statistics doesn't always give the full picture.

Anyone having standby battery drain issues might wanna try disabling “Share across devices” for Screen Time and Focus.
Turned those off and back to flatlines.

I know my 14 Pro Max battery health has not been near as good as my 12 Pro Max was. I've been really disappointed in my 14 Pro Max battery. I still don't know what the battery eating culprit is on my 14 Pro Max. I don't think it's the OS. But noticed it early on while on iOS 16. Again on 17, and now no change on 18 beta 6. Got my 14 Pro Max in late December 2022. It's at 85% battery. My 12 Pro Max was at 93% after the same length of time.

This is my fear if I get 16 Pro Max - I haven't decided yet. I have been VERY pleased with my 13 Pro Max battery life...the health. Launch day phone and it hit 89% health back in June 2024. The drain is there now..no complaints however. (ok, maybe one....I WISH I can get a battery replacement when I want from Apple, especially when I have AppleCare still)

Anyway...I've seen threads here, Twitter, Reddit etc about the battery in 14 and 15's, dying fast horrible drain, etc. Not a great experience from many when it comes to the battery. I see 16s are supposed to have some new "stacking technology." Maybe...more like hopefully this makes a big difference.

there's always a number of lotteries with getting a new device, even between units of the same model

Yep. Battery lottery, screen lottery, ssd lottery…

The battery health problem stressed me back when I had a MacBook Pro as my computer. That’s why after 9 years of service I sold it and bought a cheap used Mac mini. And I also got an iPad Pro for mobility. At least now I don’t have to worry about my Mac battery…

Hello.

After using 17.6.1 build 21G101 before, and build 21G93 after, on the same A15 device, under the same conditions (same times, same apps -Wipr v.1.59-, same configuration, same place, same proportion of WiFi/data), I can confirm that version 21G101 caused an important battery drain, while build 21G93, which I installed afterwards because of this problems, is giving me a very good battery life, comparable to iOS 16.

If you want more details, all the tests are in the iOS 17.6.1 thread.

If you’re interested in a stable, polished and efficient build, at least for A15 devices, my recommendation is to manually clean install (restore) this 21G93 build.

Gotta be in it to win it
Not true. I use 7, 8-year-old devices that haven’t been updated with 60% health and battery life is like-new. Original iOS versions, though.
And those original iOS versions are dinosaurs struggling with tasks and many features aren’t even supported not to mention critical vulnerabilities. Of course not using your phone for anything except battery life tests….
Why have those 11 Pro Max been degraded? Because they run iOS 17. Not one of those devices you mentioned is on iOS 13, right?
Because a lithium ion battery ages.
I have instructed my family never to update. They listen. Unlike 80% of MacRumors, we don’t upgrade often. Battery life? Like-new. We have an iPhone 8 with over 2100 cycles on iOS 12. Battery life? Like-new. I’ve tested it myself.
Functionality though like an Edsel.
I understand why you think like that. The majority of users think like that. Why? Because nobody stays behind. Nobody tries a five-year-old device on its original iOS version. So nobody knows that it can retain battery life regardless of health. Like I said, people who upgrade a lot or who update attribute runtime loss to device age. They are wrong. The former because they really haven’t tried anything, as they always run the latest iPhone on its original iOS version; the latter, they have only tried garbage iOS versions.

I’ve been using original iOS versions on devices for a long time (iOS 4). It’s the same story. Battery life never degrades. I have pretty old devices still in use.

It’s sad that people keep letting Apple get away with it without even anything so minimal like user backlash simply because they don’t know.
Batteries are cheap. Time is more precious than money. I’d rather replace a battery or buy a new phone than waste my time with hardware and software that barely work. You don’t get a prize at end of the day.

@mikiotty

Haven't tried iOS 18 yet on my daily driver but getting good numbers too with 17.7

Now these numbers below are mainly on WiFi, the improvement I have seen on the latest releases, 17.6 and later has especially been on the cellular connectivity which has been good.

Numbers below are just normal usage, not using low-power mode, turning off wi-fi during the night or similar.

I actually used it a lot but yes, like all Meta apps, it’s constantly having issues. I’m tempted to delete my account, that’s the only way to fix it 🤣
You could remove the app and sign in via Safari - no app drain due to no app, but similar functionality 🙂.
