I’ve upgraded every year since the 7 and never seen a battery degrade like the 14PM. 89% for me before and after the update. My launch 13 Pro Max still with original battery was 99% before and after the update.
I am glad I didn’t get a 14 Pro/Max those health percentages seem to be very low for only one year of use.
Yeah. I truly regret getting the 14 Pro due to this. I have to get rid of it this year due to the terrible heat management and (therefore) battery health. My launch 13 Pro Max still with original battery was 99% before and after the update.

Man I hope the 15 pros don’t have this same issue.Yeah. I truly regret getting the 14 Pro due to this. I have to get rid of it this year due to the terrible heat management and (therefore) battery health.
I’m on 3 year old 12 and battery before and after at 87%, I was bit worried before the update but nothing changed
I’m going to be honest with you as I only installed yesterday so would need few days, I’m home for next 4 so don’t use phone that much, I know one thing when out and about and on 5g just eats battery on ios16, but I always have means to charge the phone so I never pay that much attention how long will last, this might well be 5g thing and not iOS, also my usage very so much where I can go all then without charging to needed to charge my phone twice in a day 😳I’m also using a 3 year old 12 with battery capacity at 83% here. How are you finding battery life on IOS 17 so far compared with 16.6.
I’m deciding whether or not to update yet.
How? My launch 13PM is at 84%. I only charge overnight, rarely during the day or in the car. Although I am almost totally wireless charging... maybe that's the cause. My launch 13 Pro Max still with original battery was 99% before and after the update.

yes and no. Software Update and in nay case network reset recalculates the battery health percentage. So, you are right, update does not reduce battery health by itself, but it aligns the numbers to reality (-I have a hard time understanding how installing software can change the health of the battery. There may be a change in the algorithm used to monitor the health and reporting of the battery condition, but iOS15, 16, 17, 18, etc. cannot make the battery degrade. Only charge cycles and possibly rapid charging can do that. Am I wrong?
Yikes. So I rarely ever charge overnight, I usually charge for an hour a day max. I don’t use wireless charging unless I have to or can’t find a lightning cable. How? My launch 13PM is at 84%. 15PM arrives tomorrow and I want to give it the best chance possible...
