Thanks - I had it on charge and locked all night, but I will keep waiting.
Same. Only started showing up almost 24 hours later - it is not only indexing faces, and pets, but seems to pre-cut out people, live animations, vehicles and statues for stickers too. Judging by how few are in each category under stickers right now (about 35 hours since install) this appears to be an extremely slow and laborious process.

When “People & Pets“ has no people but 8 cats…

One big issue with the Photos feature where it presents galleries of "Four legged friends" is that it keeps creating galleries of sadly passed away pets. This is upsetting and I've had to turn it off for this reason. It would be great if this feature realised that, and was able to identify the pets in question so it didn't show them, but I doubt very much it does.

Soon after our 20yo cat died, it was a real wrench to see her pop up in recommended photos or memories in Photos… we really miss(ed) her awfully.

But these days — as time passes and heals it is lovely to see the old girl now and then. And they are always — always — happy memories. I always smile, sometimes a little wistfully, but the magic is still there.

Though I can completely understand that this is a YMMV type of thing. 🙂

Nice, I hope it can tell the difference between my two little ones when they were <1 week old because I can't

already work in iOS 16. even through spotlight
You can search for animals and different species in photos in earlier versions of iOS macOS, but now it can identify individual animals and not just things like "dogs".

Does anyone know if this feature is available in macOS Sonoma as well?

I think I'd like to hang out with Reef for a while. lol

This will be an excellent and adorable addition to iOS.

Does this mean that it will come pet accounts on our devices in the future.
I mean what cat isn't interested in doing some surfing the web when mom/dad isn't at home 😉

Is this really new?

For several years now, Photos has been able to identify photos of our neighbor's dog in our photo library…

It sounds, though, as if it has been improved!

It's being promoted from a bug to a feature! :p
