I like the new features. To highlight one of them. Because of Tracking URLs, protection against web tracking seems to have been improved significantly.

According to this browser test https://www.eff.org/pages/cover-your-tracks, Safari in iOS 16 (and in macOS 13) provides “some protection” against web tracking, but it has “some gaps”.

The test indicates that Safari’s protection against web tracking in iOS 17 (and in macOS Sonoma) is “strong” and gaps aren’t mentioned anymore. Cool.

The privacy sounds great until web admins and site owners decrease site functionality further than they do already or increase the already high number of sites that simply do not work at all when using it. I love privacy but the money makers will find a way to stop it I am sure.

Nice features! Safari is my favorite browser in iOS.
It is mine too. But let’s not forget why Safari is the best browser on iOS. It’s because all other 3rd-party browser’s have to run on Safari’s engine if they are on iOS. It’s like telling Ferrari that they can run their cars on the road in a in the US, but have to use Ford engines.

In this case, Ford‘s in the US run awesome, while Ferrari’s in the US are crap.

One thing I wish they'd add is more translation options - specifically Swedish <> English.
That would allow me to get rid of a separate translation app on my phone.

I wonder if TMobile's $10/5GB ipad-specific data plan will still be available if we upgrade to 17. Someone told me he was sure Apple terminated his plan, lost his remaining data, and removed the entire plan option when he upgraded to iOS16, and all the remaining plans were more expensive. ...yet, it still exists on my iOS 14 ipad and works fine.

Safari still with no fullscreen button 😑

full
Turn the phone sideways.

I thought url tracking was not possible with hide my IP enabled in IOS 16.6?

Tracking URLs

URLs in iOS 17 can be stripped of all tracking information appended to the end of the URL so that websites cannot track your browsing using URL identifiers. This function is enabled automatically for private browsing in iOS 17, but it can be turned on for all browsing.
I really hope this isn't something stupid that strips all querystring parameters from URLs. That would break a LOT of links on the web.

I was really hoping for Per-Profile Web proxy settings. I work with multiple business partners. In order to connect to websites on my employers network and each business partner's network at the same time, I create a separate HTTP proxy for each one. Then I create a separate browser profile for each setup, each connecting to a different proxy server.

Separate cookies, sessions, and bookmarks are great, but I can't switch to Safari without having separate proxy settings like Firefox and Chrome have.

I hope there's a new feature that was not mention that would be "crash less".
Since the last maybe 2 years, my Safari crashes and the page reloads, when I scroll down too fast.
It happened on my iPhone 12, happens on my 14 Pro. It happened during the entire iOS 16 cycle, and probably also iOS 15.
This has never happened for me on my 13 Pro. Does it still happen if you turn off all of your Safari extensions?

Yes, I tried. It happened on my 12 and now on my 14 Pro as well 😕
