iOS 18.1 Beta Release Notes

New Issues
Remaining Issues
Resolved Issues

Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Yep. Just confirms what has always been said about iPhones indexing and such after an update and the need to wait a bit for performance and battery to stabilize. Apple has finally confirmed it officially now.
Yup. I'm glad they added the indicator but would prefer that it said it was indexing or whatever its doing like on Mac instead of their generic statement.

Where exactly do you see this message? I made a clean install of iOS 18.1 yesterday, and I haven’t seen it yet on my iPhone SE 3.

It's in Settings->Battery on my 15 Pro.

Okay. No, I haven’t seen it on my SE 3. Maybe because it is a clean install and it doesn’t need to index much.

By the way, I’m still at 56% and I have been using the iPhone for 6 hours (screen-on-time). This version 18.1 is amazing on my SE 3 battery wise. Thankfully I saved the IPSW, and tonight/tomorrow I’m gonna install this version on all my devices before Apple stops signing it.

Same. My battery life on 15 Pro has been great on 18.1 once this notification goes away.

After updating my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 18.1, during a call and its Dynamic Island animation, the clock on the upper corner doesn’t show up anymore.
This happens only in calls, in other circumstances it is like it used to.
Already tried hard resetting the iPhone.
iOS 18.1.1 didn’t fix this.
Anyone else?

Prior to 18.1.1, my Weather app would incorrectly show “Work” as my location when I’m at work, despite only having “Home” labeled on my Contact Card.

Now, on 18.1.1, the Weather app correctly displays “Home” when I’m home, and “My Location” when I’m at work.

Soooo that’s good.

Two bug fixes that I noticed:
1. When using iPhone mirroring, and clearing a notification inside an app, the notification badge will stay active.
Only way to fix, was to opening the app directly on the iPhone.
2. I have dark icons configured as Automatic, when it was time to the iPhone to turn OFF dark mode, some icons will remain with the dark appearance.

aaaaand now the Weather app is back to showing “Work” even though I don’t have work labeled in Maps or my Contact Card.

Might be a placebo… but im pretty sure battery life is a bit better on my 13 pro max today since 18.1.1

Same here, updated OTA from 17.7.2 to 18.1.1 and no such message. Checked straight after the update. Left the powercable plugged in during the update and for an hour after.
