Unless they fix the weird spam filtering then nobody at all should use iCloud email. This is a serious warning.

In short, there are silent and secret spam filters within iCloud that will just delete what they think are spam emails with zero user notification. This has been the case for around a decade. The trouble is that no spam filter is perfect, of course.

I tried iCloud email but important emails from people I was working with just kept disappearing. They said they sent them. No sign of them anywhere for me.

So, it was back to gmail.

Just realized in all they years since icloud was released I have never once used it.... between my gmail account and a hotmail account for spam stuff..... I have never used icloud.... Nor have I ever emailed anybody using an @icloud.com address.... So weird.

I’m hoping this update addresses spam folder rules you can set up that will actually work and send emails directly to trash

It’s partly because it came along so late. The vast majority of people were already using gmail or Hotmail/Outlook. Initially it was also part of a paid for service, too, which didn’t help. Add in the silent spam filtering I mention in my reply above and it’s just never been a viable product.

I hope this is not automatic or some stupid glitch that will suddenly delete your emails from years on up. I have folders from previous work, friends that passed away sorted in folders by years. I'm going to do an export to MBOX this weekend to make sure.

iCloud‌ Mail can help you unsubscribe from senders in bulk, sending future emails from those senders to Trash.

‌iOS 18‌ is set to be released on Monday, September 16, but the ‌iCloud‌ Mail functionality may not be added until a later ‌iOS 18‌ update."

We've had this for ages on iOS. It does not work very well. I "unsubscribe" all the time but keep getting emails.

Hmm it’s interesting that the silent spam filtering seems to hit some people but not others? I use my iCloud mail for some things and have never yet noticed a problem.

I guess that I will take certainty over uncertainty and stick with gmail.

I also think it is because Apples product is subpar.

… that you know about. This is the issue.

I think maybe iCloud email is just about OK for occasional use, like older people who check their email once a week/month. But if you’re a heavy home user or a business user then do not use it.

Maybe—just maybe—Apple will finally give us an easy way to mass-delete iMessage attachments, like all those photos and videos that balloon your iCloud storage until Apple’s nudging you to 'upgrade' (aka: pay more). For years, we've been stuck downloading and manually deleting these files one-by-one, then waiting an awkward 30 days for iCloud to finallycatch up before we can turn backups on again.

Meanwhile, Apple’s silently chanting, 'Buy more storage, buy more storage!' It’s like they’ve perfected the art of making things just annoying enough that you consider giving in. Classic money-making move: make life inconvenient unless you pay extra.

And no, I’m not about to delete all my iMessages after 365 days—what if I need proof of that very specific text I sent my plumber ages ago? Trust me, I’m going to need that receipt when his 'fix' comes undone.

More importantly there should be a way to export messages for legal purposes.

iCloud Mail cleanup
"Stay even more in control of your inbox with a new collection of powerful cleanup tools accessible from the Mail app, iCloud.com, and iCloud Mail settings."

What exactly is this feature and where can it be found? I checked iCloud.com as well as iOS and macOS app Mail settings.
