How do you know it’s not a hardware problem?

My iPhone 13 was always freezing and I thought it would be a software issue. After calling Apple they told me that it was hardware problem and I got a new device.

Instead of waiting for an update I’d call Apple and tell them what’s happening. It’s very very unlikely that this problem exists after so many (betas included) still exists.

Same thing happened last year with the 15s. iOS 17.1 fixed the issue. They’re are lots of reports of this so suggests more of a software issue.

Simple logic because people with tons of different devices are reporting the same thing...or for example my iPad Pro M2 and iPhone 15 are stuttering more since the 18.0.1 release.

Plus we aren't taking about lockups and freezing....we are talking animation stuttering and lack of overall smoothness.

Yeah, it’s stuttering since first iOS 17 version.
The overall performance is not affected, but the animations themselves are very jittery and laggy, initially when I updated, I thought that Apple slows down old devices, but this problem is also present on 15s and 16s.

Do you notice control centre stuttering animation, when you pull down it when brightness slider is move(autobrightness works)?

are you still experiencing this?

on iOS 18.0 it can get choppy sometimes, but I found that disabling True Tone keeps it smooth for the long haul oddly enough

maybe fluctuations in True Tone readout can affect animations

not sure if people are still having choppiness on 18.1

Noticed the choppy UI even on the iPad Mini 7 and in this case it's not low 60hz refresh rate. Swiping between pages on the home screen is a bit choppy, and it feels more like 40fps, so not super stuttery and not smooth either. But if you open up something that's going to put some more strain on the GPU like Apple Maps and you drag that whole map UI around it's really very smooth, same in games.

If it's anything like a PC GPU, it's as if the GPU clocks aren't ramping up high enough or quickly enough and which results in a sluggish and stuttery UI experience. This on iOS 18.2 beta 3 so still early in this beta yet.

I was hoping for Beta 4 but it sounds like Apple has some serious QC issues hence the delay this week. Guessing we will get a beta tomorrow and then on Tuesday next week and then RC. The battery health bug has been big for them with the watch betas too. Lots of misses

Give them a break they’re still learning how to flawlessly implement window animations and we’ve had swipe up gesture iPhones for 7 years starting with iPhoneX in 2017

iPhone 14 Pro here, after iOS 18.1 update, during calls, Dynamic Island animation doesn’t let the clock on the left corner appear anymore.
Already tried hard resetting the iPhone.
iOS 18.1.1 didn’t fix this.
Anyone else?

On my 16 pro and the other 16 pros with my mates. All have stutters when swiping home and opening apps. 18.0.1 doesn’t fix this. It’s so annoying. Had it all through iOS 17 on my 15 pro. Does 18.1 fix this?

I have this on my iP15Pro…it’s driving me nuts. It’s especially visible in scrolling Safari. But I get it in Photos as well, and sometimes Settings. My camera also “stutters” or hangs sometimes. Won’t go to changed lens and slow to focus…..I bought in march/april. My previous iPhone was the 6S.

I’m a bit astonished to read so many negative experiences, and I wanted to share my positive one regarding the animations of the UI.

Keep in mind that I haven’t seen the “iPhone is indexing so it may be slower” message, maybe because I did a fresh install of iOS 18.1

Okay, my experience: iPhone SE 3, which has an A15 like the iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 14, and only 4GB of RAM. However I guess that the lack of Apple Intelligence gives my phone room to breath. Actually, RAM management is pretty good, with most of the already open apps being kept in memory even after a whole night.

Regarding the fluidity of the UI, in my case I haven’t experienced those stutters not even on the Settings App, which I do on Sequoia on my M4 Pro Mac mini.

The system feels snappy and responsive, and I’ve never been happier to update this early on the cycle. I’ve been updating my devices to the next major version around late spring to an already mature build, such as 16.6.1 and 17.6.1, but this time I really liked all the non Apple Intelligence features from iOS 18, so I jumped in this early and I couldn’t be happier, even with battery life.

Could this be a case where older/simpler devices like the SE3 (relatively good GPU rendering a relatively low resolution screen) behave much smoother than more advanced and powerful iPhones?

If possible i always update using ipsw file. Some users (and my experiences) said that it’s cleaner and less issues, even though apple said no difference. I just updated to 18.1.1 and the battery is better (iPhone 14).

To my experience, you’ll always see people complaining about stuttering on this forum, it doesn’t matter if you don’t see it.
i really think it’s a very subjective matter. Even if I have a nearly perfect visus (even considering my age 😅), I can’t see any stuttering in iOS 18.1.1

In my case, i didn’t experience stuttering when writings in 18.1.1. It was there in 18.1 and 18.0.1. Also, the predictive text seems better than before.

Maybe (probably) they’re fixing/improving iOS 18 update by update and on the latest they addressed the ones that you we’re experiencing. And maybe on future updates they keep addressing other bugs in other devices. Let’s hope so.
