So I both agree to an extent, and disagree with that assessment. Could Apple improve Siri’s query results? Absolutely. (And I think they are and will be doing that). But for now, it is somewhat of a bandaid for that. But, I think there are many other good reasons for ChatGPT’s integration with Siri. For one, ChatGPT has a whole slew of features like text and content generation, screen analysis, etc. All of those features are now accessible via Siri without needing the ChatGPT app or even a ChatGPT account. This is actually pretty big for those who have incorporated ChatGPT into their workflows. I don’t use the text generation features for any of my SubStack writing, but it can be helpful for some other things. And the image generation features have been useful for me for creating some initial inspiration and concept art for my fiction projects. And this is just the beginning, with this “Siri extensions” framework, all kinds of additional powerful AI tools could be added to Siri as extensions, almost similar to browser extensions.I thought of chatGPT for answering questions that SIRI couldn't provide much of a response was rather a bandaid to the lack of a Siri AI interface paired with Internet search capabilities? Even browsers with AI can give you decent summarization on a topic you phase a question in the URL field.
Same.Beta 2 is available but just fails to install
So far iOS/iPadOS/tvOS 18.2 beta 3 and MacOS 15.2 beta 3 installed without issues. Timing was good because local thundercloud activity caused a momentary power loss a half hour later with switched sources.Mine installed properly.
I don’t think they will release something before 18.2 - it would be really nice, but I think they are all focused on Apple Intelligence sadly.Today would be a good day for 18.1.1
Today would be a good day for 18.1.1
Unless Apple has found a solution for the battery issues, I don't expect them to release version 18.1.1. There are no significant problems that require a .1.1 update. I don't have high hopes that they have resolved the battery issues. Like @Stiille said, Apple's focus is on AI and getting it out as quick as possible.I don’t think they will release something before 18.2 - it would be really nice, but I think they are all focused on Apple Intelligence sadly.
Forgetting everything else is a shame, especially battery problems with many devices.
Still fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Most likely public beta today.
Most PB testers are use to one day later anyway unless it’s the RC or the beta before the RC.Agree. Actually a tad surprised it wasn’t yesterday.
Likely how it will go for the next few weeks
18.2 Beta 3 November 11th (this weeks seeding)
18.2 Beta 4 November 18th
18.2 Beta 5 November 25th
18.2 RC December 2nd
18.2 Public release December 9th
18.3 beta on December 3rd? Will 18.3 be a bug fix mostly or new features like 18.2 offered?
yep, usual 3 weeks wait for beta 2Just the yearly reminder for everyone that beta 1 in past years has gone from Dec till after the first of the year. It can be a long beta 1 cycle if tradition holds true.
I think there’s a good chance 18.3 will include new features. I actually think this year that every point update will include new features, at least likely every update leading up to WWDC25. It seems there are a lot of Apple Intelligence features coming, and I’m sure there will be some other tweaks and improvements as well, similar to the Default Apps section in Settings. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see that section expanded with additional categories and options over the course of the betas. All of the analysts I’ve read seem to be saying there will be a ton of features coming with Apple Intelligence, and this will be a very busy beta cycle. 👍🏻Likely how it will go for the next few weeks
