A lot of Apple-hating in this thread..interesting. Based on totally unsupported rumors, that are probably more about stock price manipulation than anything else.

I agree. It simply works and does a good job at what it needs to do. I tried the new Samsung S24 Ultra, and the device is a beauty! The display is amazing, and have to admit it's better than the 15pro. What I found myself doing was looking for third party apps to complete daily work that IOS did natively, such as notes, the calendar app and others. Samsungs OS is the jack of all trades, but master of none. I would rather have a phone that's masters its functionality, even if its in a few areas, then have phone that is good in many but is not refined at what it does. Example, the finger print sensor though better than the P8P still is not very consistent, and the face unlock works good, though as soon as it gets dark well....doesn't work and you have to revert to your fingerprint. Also, you can't use the face unlock for banking apps etc, you have to use your fingerprint and you get my point...? But Apple does need to step it up in AI. I am not talking about with pictures, or what I believe is gimmicky stuff like circle something and it will find it for you on the web. I am referring to call screening, call translate etc..
thanks, agree, honest review, i am at a point where i want something that just works, i don't have time to tinker.
i am surprised that Samsung doesn't let you use face ID for banking apps, is this Samsung or banks don't trust face ID ?

"that IOS did natively, such as notes, the calendar app"

Don't Samsung phones come with two sets of native apps for this type of tasks? One from Google and one from Samsung, and in some cases (for example for Calendar) the two apps actually work together so you can use them interchangeably.

iOS 18's rumored AI features could revive faltering iPhone sales in China, according to DigiTimes.

In a paywalled report, DigiTimes explains that despite the Chinese market pivoting toward high-end devices, iPhone sales have reportedly struggled since the start of 2024 in the region against rival brands offering generative AI features and foldable displays.

In December 2023, Apple reportedly saw a 13% decline in revenue in China, following months as the top smartphone brand in the country by shipments, and there have been further reports of even more severe declines of up to 40% in recent weeks. Chinese consumers apparently see Apple's diminutive selection of AI features as contradictory to its image as a pioneering brand.

DigiTimes reiterated previous rumors suggesting that iOS 18 will contain a number of new AI features, but cautioned that Apple needs to make significant progress in the AI space to meet consumer expectations and revive the company's popularity in China amid fierce competition from brands like Huawei, which are heavily investing in AI research and development.

On an earnings call earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company was working on generative AI and would share details "later this year." Apple is expected to preview iOS 18 at its annual developers conference WWDC in June, and the update should be released in September. Some new AI features could be exclusive to the iPhone 16 models later in the year, with the lineup rumored to get a "significantly" upgraded Neural Engine.

I suggest using 18k gold frame (not just color) in iPhone 16, which will attract some customers.

Chat GPT app is on my iPhone, so I don't know how many more large language models I need? If I'm going to ask different ones the same questions and compare their answers, I may as well do a web search and comb through the results, LOL. The one area where I would like to see more Apple AI is in speech recognition. I want it to be A LOT better on Apple products.

WeChat runs so much better on Android. On an S24+. With Google translate integration I can type in English and it converts to Chinese as I'm typing. On iPhone also with Google translate integration I need to type my entire message and press "translate" and then send.

Competitors are working on foldables, AI, smart rings, ridiculous cameras. Apple can't even get Siri right and is focused on emojis.

I used Google Gemini and circle to search extensively yesterday while shopping for plants. Normally I'd need to look at the tag on the plant and manually search the name on my phone. With Android now I can take a quick photo and circle the plant, instantly throwing out several images and links of what the plant is. Alternatively, I can open Gemini and take a photo of the plant, and it'll tell me what it is if I ask "what is this plant?" All running native on the phone without using a shortcut or other step(s).
You know you can take a pic of a plant on iOS and simply tap the info button and it’ll ID it, right? You can go even further if you tap lookup and you’ll get more info…

My mistake, I never took advantage of that (had 15 Pro Max).

OK so how can you call out Android for being able to do this when you don’t even know the feature exists on iOS? It doesn’t require the newest most powerful hardware either, it’s a feature of the operating system. I think there’s a lot of people in this thread who are very misdirected about things.

I'm curious about which of the features will work in China (as I live here). FaceTime Audio is something I seriously miss, and am looking forward to finally being able to travel back home again soon so I can get my partner and me sold in America iPhones so that I can get FaceTime Audio back. I'm not hopeful though, considering that while Siri is bad globally, it is **** in China. Y'all can at least usually get decent internet searches at the very least, while I get Baidu bs.

To this day, I'm still having problems using Siri, how about they fix that first before jumping into the AI pool.

To run WeChat you probably don't have to go all iPhone Pro Max Extra Plus.
Yet users may prefer larger storages thanks to WeChat's notorious 'optimization' of app size and local data management. So why not the best in line after paying the exorbitant Apple storage taxes😭😭

I didn't find the feature as intuitive when I had my iPhone 15PM. I think I used the feature to try creating a sticker, maybe that's what I was thinking of. I recall there were more steps involved on iOS, not looking it up again so I may be wrong.

I retract my statement from earlier, my bad.

Not so sure whether AI features alone will increase sales in any region.

Interested in how will Apple react if war in Taiwan happens. Considering that TSMC makes them chips.

Also what made them believe ppl in China really want AI? If Chinese companies push it to the limit it does not mean people are into it, they are thinking that AI makes them cooler than US. Another problem to take into account is that Apple is blind in terms of market analyzis. They didn't foresee war in Ukraine and then had to reallocate assets in Russia in hurry when sanctions hit. And now they are kinda doing the same in China – instead of reallocating assets they are investing more which will hit them hard enough if unwanted stuff actually happens

Do you care to qualify this? Are you saying the performance is lackluster or?
It’s all subjective. I have had Android and I have had Apple…Apple has convinced me that it simply works. For some people that’s all that matters IE—-a reliable less flashy car vs a less reliable tech filled car. I went from zero Apple devices in 2018 to a iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and iPhones since then. Heck I even have two Apple TVs and an iPod mini as well. Once again, integration and few reboots due to hanging OS are the main reasons.

Why? Integration and I mentioned this above but you did not include this in the quote you referenced, hence the reason for a longer answer but I digress.
There’s a few things at stake here…people that don’t care about “flash” but just want something that works. The iPhone does that.
However, there’s the tech geek in me that likes being able to easily mod or change or sideload like android devices.
However, that comes at a cost—-slow and glitchy devices. Also, there’s a greater selection of devices, operating systems, designs and so forth with Android devices. I like being able to change out batteries on my own, adding memory, changing the look of the interface, etc. However, the simplicity of an iPhone is attractive to non tech people like my wife and other older family members. So Apple is doing something right.
I would like a balance of both but that’s not going to happen so I’ll stick with devices that simply work. I don’t know if that answered your question because it’s simply my take on “Android vs Apple”. Having used both for years I stick with Apple for two reasons-
-they work
-integration

With n short, Performance is not lackluster, design is…

One quick note to add, a comparable Android device used to be half the cost of an iPhone but now they’re about the same price. So it makes the decision easier to go with Apple.

I believe Apple is too late to the game for AI to make any difference for the Apples China market. There is already a great number of options avilable for China users, such as Kimi, and Doubao and many of the domestic phone makers have products fully integrated. As both an China based Apple and Huawei user, I can download both Doubao and Kimi on my iPhone (China Apple App Store), and Huawei HarmonyOS App store. Free to use, and all that is required is a phone number, or Apple iD account.

ByteDance Doubao also has a MacOS app. Bytedance are the team behind TikTok.

The reason for not allowing Face ID with banking apps on an android is they just use the front camera that can easily be tricked because its not got dedicated tech behind it.

I think your point of view is subjective my sister keeps her Samsung phones for 3 years & has no issues with them they just work. The difference is you’re now tied into the ecosystem.
But if you just own a mobile & nothing else the galaxy phones compare quite well against the iPhone in some cases you actually get your moneys worth over time. When you compare mobile to mobile
