In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice…
As with everything, YMMV.
I've had better results using the IPSW for iOS and a full installer for MacOS, so I don't have issue with the extra time and steps involved.
Yes, I understand what you mean, and yes, we're still talking about files being overwritten and operating system compartments needing to be reinstalled. Everything is different in practice and depends on "n" factors, both hardware and software. I'd say it's a general rule for all computer systems, so I agree with you! I'm not ruling out the "luck" factor either.
My comment was just meant to be theoretical, and so I realize that reality is what always counts!
Aside from that, on the 11 Pro and 15 Pro, iOS 26.1 RC continues to run reasonably well, even with improved battery life (but, of course, let's not forget the subjectivity of hardware and software).
Finally, I read in this thread that someone has also suggested an RC2: I don't know if it will be released, and I'm waiting for the final version instead!

I think I heard RC 2 because the first RC had written out “ 26.1 Release Candidate “ usually it’s just 26.1 hence the RC 2 ,
So if it comes out before public I expect it called just “26.1”

I'm pretty sure I've seen reports of Apple Intelligence draining more battery. I have it off in my Air.
I noticed increased battery drain with Apple Intelligence on (iPhone 15 pro) so I turned it off. Better but still not great. Using the speaker for anything audio also significantly drains the battery

If it was fixed and working in recent history, how am I to know it’s (once again) broken and no longer usable? Should I blame MacRumors for that one?
If you know-it-alls were aware of the current state of the software, maybe you should’ve said something.
Unfortunately once again I am being used as the test guinea pig without any prior warning.
At some point you should stop trusting that tool… THAT is on you… I personally don’t know of anyone who uses it but word has it that the software is garbage. Your own experience should tell you that.

Again, we aren’t blaming you for the status of that tool.. if it’s made by Apple, that is on them. What we are trying to say is that you know the software is garbage but you keep using it.

Once a dog bites you it is prone to bite you again. The question is, how many times are you going to go back and try to pet that same dog only to be bitten again?

Zollotech on YouTube mentioned he tried this on twitter. He said he actually had worse battery life with Apple Intelligence turned off.
That's a little disconcerting. LLMs use a decent amount of power; if the battery life is worse or unchanged with it off, that might mean it's still on when you have it switched off, just not presenting it in the UI.

That would be very underhanded and crappy of Apple to do, but then... this decade is full of that isn't it.

I have also. That’s why I was surprised by his post. Seems he had mixed results depending on the day.
Why do people keep quoting him like he’s a cosmic being or something? I like his ability to notice tiny UI changes but that’s about it. It’s just his personal observation and he’s neither an expert nor do I think he’s claiming to be.

Just turn off the AI and observe over a few days if you have a supported model.

Yes it does IPSW installs and a lot of features are available in the free version, possibly including this one. It also has functionality that others do not. Their website has loads of information and I expect Black Friday pricing to appear shortly.

Has anyone messed with the WiFi 7 settings on 26.1? I find performance MUCH better when Wi-Fi 6E Mode is off. Hopefully I see an improvement on 26.1 from my 17 Pro Max with this feature turned on. I can be standing directly under my UniFi U7 Pro XGS with it turned on and get 1300Mbps with it turned off in same location 1850Mbps.

I also get around 1300 Mbps with Wi-Fi 6E enabled on my iPhone 17 Pro Max with a Unifi U7 Pro access point. If I disable Wi-Fi 6E, however, it drops to 800.

With iOS 26.0.1 it was a tad faster, around 1600.

My backup phone that I use for testing (Samsung S25 Ultra, yikes) is way faster as it uses the full 320 MHz channel width on 6 GHz, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max sticks to 160 MHz.

An LLM only uses power if you make it do LLM things. Just having it there loaded won't use any power.

need rc2 or an update asap cause this is just ruining my phone :(, how to make my 16 pro max run less hot? this update is hell

Try checking your apps using the most battery power and, if everything looks ok, try the hard reset first. If that does not help either, perhaps reinstall the RC with an IPSW file (you will need a computer for this).

We are too late for a second RC now, however we could still get a fresher final build early next week.

there is a ipsw for rc? didn't know so i used ota and i already did a hard restart a few times didn't work :/

Apart from home screen/widget stuttering, this is very solid for me. Last beta was killing my battery. Getting hot out of nowhere, draining super fast. Now everything is well. Maybe I am super lucky?

Horrible experience ruining bug in RC - Siri no longer opens apps, just continually asks me “which app would you like to open?”
this is problematic as it is my primary method of “locating” apps lol
