My guess is public release next week and 26.4 beta 1 next week too. 😁🥳
Don’t think so. Why only one beta? We haven’t seen this in the past.
And it’s been a while since beta 1 but we shouldn’t forget that we had the Christmas and new years holiday period.
Such an OS doesn’t develop itself overtime, there are still some devs needed to work on it :)

Yeah, I don’t think it’s something to panic over or anything. Let them cook. We’ve waited this long, a little longer won’t hurt. I know the anticipation can be rough, but I think 26.3 is going to be more of a minor update anyways. 26.4 is the one I’m interested in at this point… 👍🏻

It’s automatic updates not instantaneous updates. And there’s a reason for that.
This means in the event of a faulty update the device would to skip it and choose the next update with the fix instead. So, instead of a bricked phone leaving you stranded, you’d have a fully functioning phone.

It’s not horrible. It’s by design and is a very common practice in the software industry.
So Apple itself considers iOS 26 a defective update because its iPhone is still on iOS 18 with automatic updates activated haha

My step-daughter was over last week in part to have me look at something on her phone. She was still on iOS 18. Had no idea that there was a major upgrade available. I know Apple doesn't want to harass people with upgrade notifications, but they're not being informative enough either. :(

I used to get notifications from the Tips app about new major versions of iOS. The only reason I don’t get them now is because I’m installing updates right when they’re available, and I’m on beta versions. 👍🏻

Didn't they do this same thing for the past few major releases?
No, the same iPhone automatically updated to iOS 18 last October, a little over a month after the final release of iOS 18.1, if I remember correctly. This year, in January, it's still on iOS 18; I don't recall the exact version. I'll take a look and maybe update the phone to the latest version of iOS 18 that I left. Besides, reports are saying that the adoption rate for iOS 26 is one of the worst a new iOS version has ever had.

They might be less offensive here because of the „huge“ design change. Huge for some of the average users, more minor for others.

Hope the year now finally begins with all the update stuff during this week.
Seeing the first app updates as well since the end of last week.
There are still so many apps without using the iOS 26 SDK. Strangely YouTube did use it, visible in the new keyboard, but now after the latest YouTube app udpate it seems to be rolled back. Theres now again the old keyboard in this app.
Curious how this will proceed.

No, Apple doesn’t force the next major version onto users. Users manually choose to install the next major version (ie iOS 26) and then it automatically updates in that update cycle. When iOS 27 comes out, then you’ll manually select whether you want to upgrade or not, and then they automatically update on that cycle. It’s actually quite refreshing that approach, compared to Windows who just want to stuff every update down your throat with zero choice. 👍🏻

Today would be great but I doubt it. And they could cancel the update like they did it with 21.1.1
Think it would be possible with 26.2.1. The 26.3 final won’t be released in the next 1-2 weeks, so a smaller update would make sense, especially if it’s carrying some security fixes.

A new beta today for me would be the most important. Curious for the, if there are any, visible changes/improvements.
And the battery life enthusiasts also need something new.

It's interesting that Apple has chosen now to announce that Gemini will be used for the revamped Siri and Apple Intelligence. Perhaps 26.4 beta is closer than we expect.
