Installing it on my spare iPhone 11 for now and will see how it goes. All going smoothly, might put the first PB on my main devices next month.

Yeah unfortunately my iPhone is too critical to have break so it has to wait for the public beta, but my iPad is just a second screen for watching YouTube, signing PDFs, and drawing occasionally, so I'm okay with it being broken if necessary. I just squeaked under the wire requirements wise (iPad 8) but with only 32GB of storage I have to reset the device, then install the update without signing in, then connect iCloud in order to have enough space free to run the update. Kind of a pain, but I'll hang onto it as long as I can.

Oh and it's working great actually, Barely any glitches in this release for my uses, looks gorgeous too.

So beta 2 is most likely the week of the 23rd. I'm interested to see how this new design evolves over the beta cycle.
I’m betting 6/30 with the public beta 1 on 7/1.

Edit: I take it back. Forgot that PB1 of 18.0 was DB3. So PB1 in mid-July, most likely.

Usually the first 3/4 betas have intervals of two weeks, then they release them every week. Beta 2 will probably be released on the 23rd June

If you transfer songs to iPhone via files app , does Apple Music recognize it or you have to sync them like old days?
That's a great question.. FWIW, on iOS 18.5, I'm able to use the WALTR app to add songs, and then they show up in the Music App. I'm curious if this is still the case with iOS 26

I seem to recall that during the iOS 18.0 beta cycle, the first two or three betas were re-released a week later. Seeing all the work they're doing on the interface, I don't rule out seeing something like this this year.

No such thing happened for the first two betas.

Beta 1 was build 22A5282m on June 10th.
Beta 2 was build 22A5297f on June 24th.

No re-release.

Beta 3 however was released as build 22A5307f on July 8th and re-released as build 22A5307i on July 15th, simultaneously being public beta 1.

How about a dedicated number row, in the keyboard, like Android has had for years now
I don't understand how they haven't done this. At the very least give us the option to turn it on in settings for those that want it. Apple is so maddening sometimes with the most basic omissions

Guys ! This is the speculation thread, not the bugs and missing features thread! Move to this thread please: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-26-beta-1-bug-fixes-changes-and-improvements.2458458/
That's not a thread for missing features either. It's for discussing the beta install. Something Apple chose not to announce/discuss/implement has nothing to do with the current beta experience. You are just making things worse for both threads by sending people in the wrong direction. If you want a thread to rant, make one. Heck, make it sticky so we don't have as many dupes.

I wish they’d iterate more at the start of the beta cycle, like a release every 3-4 days to decimate the most obvious bugs quickly. However, my bet is the 23rd of June for b2, July 7th for b3 and July 8th for public beta 1 ☝️

To be fair, this is a public beta release, as the process to get either the developer, or the public is the same process. Regardless of which camp you are in, you currently can get it easily. If they iterated quicker, the forums would then complain that they have to download massive date every few days!
They'll be working behind the scenes, implementing changes that 'developers' have noted, of issues out in the wild, and will probably have many 'builds' each day to evaluate.

According to website traffic, Apple is already testing future builds. They are just not releasing every single build. The goal is to squash as many bugs as possible prior to general release. If they know they fixed it, there’s nothing new to test. They’ll give us a new beta when there is something new they want feedback on. As testers, we are voluntarily working for them, not the other way around.

A long wait for a beta update will be hard considering the severity of the current issues (Safari constantly freezing/needing a hard close and relaunch)
It’s really pretty usable besides that, the battery drain and general lagginess

I haven’t had any issues with Safari, but I did close out all of my old tabs when I installed the update to give it a clean slate to work with. Battery has been pretty good for me, a bit of a dip from 18.5, but to be expected from a first developer beta. And I haven’t experienced any lagginess at all. Very stable for a first developer beta, and I think it will likely be another week or two before we get a second dev beta. 👍🏻

New beta build

Obviously only for iPhone 15 and 16

Today’s update is exactly why so many of you need to stop acting like it’s an absolute truth beta 2 won’t show up for 2 or 3 weeks. Yes, that’s likely, but no one knows exactly what Apple will do. Today proves that.

Last year we had re-releases too and none of them caused any delays afaik.

I think they‘ll probably release B2 in 2 weeks, considering the public perception of liquid glass. Probably top priority getting accessibility issues out of the way asap. Then again, Beta 2 is usually very exciting cause it‘s usually a known issues resolved party (for the last few years at least). That‘s probably when I jump on the beta bandwagon.
