I tried iOS 27 for the first time and, being in Ireland which doesn’t get all the new Siri stuff, I find it very underwhelming Indeed.

It would be difficult for me to notice the difference between the new beta and iOS 26. I think in Europe, where we don’t get all the new Siri stuff, the update won’t be that big a deal at all come September.

There are still lots of small refinements across the iOS that you will be getting. As for Siri AI, it appears that you would actually be tapping into the same new model, just missing the dedicated Siri AI app and the new Dynamic Island animations.

Appreciate the reply, but I think that one is off, and it's worth clearing up because a lot of people seem to have the same impression.

Apple's own newsroom post from 8 June says EU users will not have access to Siri AI and its advanced capabilities, including the dedicated app to revisit conversations, the expanded Visual Intelligence experience, integrated tools for writing, Siri mode in Camera, and other Siri AI capabilities announced at WWDC26. That last clause is doing the heavy lifting. It isn't the app and the Dynamic Island animations that are missing here, it's the assistant. There is no new model for an EU iPhone to tap into.

What we do keep is Apple Intelligence, which has been available on EU iPhones since 18.4. Photos editing, Image Playground, the Mail and Safari changes, the Messages suggestions, all of that works here fine. I suspect that is what creates the impression that the new model is quietly present. It isn't. That is the older platform doing its job.

The cleanest proof is watchOS. Apple states that EU users don't get Siri AI on watchOS 27 specifically because it requires a paired iPhone with Siri AI. If EU iPhones were running the new model under the hood, that dependency would not break.

Mac and Vision Pro are the exceptions, since macOS 27 and visionOS 27 both get Siri AI in the EU. So the assistant exists for us, just not on the device where it matters most. Which is exactly why the iPhone update feels thin this year, and I don't think that is me failing to notice the refinements.

The border crossing behaviour is the interesting bit. I had assumed the gating keyed off Apple Account country or device region, which would make it sticky. If it is genuinely flipping based on where you physically are as you go into Switzerland and back, that is a live geofence rather than an account setting, and it would also explain the jump to ~15 GB. The model assets are presumably sitting on your phone in France the whole time, just fenced off. Does the storage figure hold steady while you are back in the EU, or does it eventually shed the extra?

On the PS, I think that supports the earlier point rather than undercutting it. Visual Intelligence and the Photos extend tools already worked in the EU on 26, because ordinary Apple Intelligence has been available here since 18.4. What Apple excluded is specifically the expanded Visual Intelligence experience tied to Siri AI, not the feature itself. So the things you can still trigger in France are the older platform doing its job, which is exactly why the update feels thin for those of us who can't nip over to Geneva for the afternoon.

The Commission has said publicly that it rejected Apple's request for an 18 month exemption and that nothing in the DMA prevents Apple launching. Cook and Virkkunen have reportedly had constructive talks since, so it may well land, but Apple's own wording is that there is currently no timeline, and I'd rather plan around that than around optimism.

FWIW, my iPhone’s language and Siri language are both set to English (UK), while its region and Media & Purchases are set to France. With a clean install of Beta 4, set up as a new phone, I get panics. Likewise, if I restore from a backup.

Odd. Within the last week, I have paired five second generation AirTags to my 17 Pro Max running the latest developer beta with zero issues.

I have a 16ProMax running 26.6 that accepted the pairing with no issues - however, found out these were the last Gen1s I had in the drawer - I’ll wait for my Gen2 order to arrive and try again…

For my Galaxy the control that allows me to change map light/dark/auto is in the config on screen.
For the Air, it isn’t there for GMaps. I have it set to dark on the Air.
As for headlights, mine are set to auto (default unless I manually change them every time I start the PU) with DT running lights always on.

If anyone else has a newer Gen 3 Chevy Colorado and it works for them, let me know. For now I’ll wait and see what B5 offers unless I see or run into a fix.

If you have Google Maps open on the car display, and they are in light mode, and you manually turn your headlights ON, does the vehicle display map change to dark mode?

Only since iOS 26 or 18, I can't remember. But it's something I'd been waiting for since iOS 2!

It was mid way through 18. I screamed like a little girl, lol. Was very happy to finally be able to go 1st party for mail. Now with the improvement to search, it’s pretty much perfect for me

The fact that the 27 betas on everything are this stable at this early stage is impressive at least.

Maybe to you it will be "underwhelming" but that's what it was kinda supposed to be by design. Fixing all the nagging issues (including with Siri) to refine what is already there. It's essentially a maintenance release. This has been common knowledge for quite some time now.

This release was never supposed to WOW you.

I'll wait a few days to see, it worked fine with the last beta while indexing was going on and it broke after it finished. It's indexing again so we'll see.

I might have been wrong, Search works perfectly even after indexing.
Pardon my caution, but several times I ran to the Feedback Assistant to close a feedback and then have a bug appear like 2 days after updating...
