Has this update been officially canceled? I googled it, and in the last week there were a few news stories about it so... what's the state of this release?

Since apple doesn't pre-announce such things, there is no public state. No one knows when apple will release the next update

i think the next update we see will be 5.1 not a 5.0.x version because we would have had something awhile ago.

Where is iOS 5.1???

We saw a few consecutive weeks of beta builds and now nothing for almost a month. Whats the deal Apple????

Two ways to look at this, and both are speculation....

- there have been few problems found, so no need for additional beta and release on horizon

- there were several problems, or a serious problem or two found and it is taking a while for the fix

Nobody knows, even the developers (beta testers) have been rather quiet.

3rd possibility.

5.1 is ready. We are waiting on a Keynote in the next few weeks to show off the new iPad then 5.1 will be released.

OR.

The iPad 3 will just show up on the Apple Store and 5.1 will be released.

Who knows. It could be lazy engineers at the Apple campus too.

5.1 will be out whenever the iPad 3 is out (most likely march)

I dont think they will just release 5.1 on its own and have a 5.2 release for iPad 3 launch.

As for the 5.1 betas..we might not be hearing anything because its ready, there is a serious bug, or there are new features, etc still getting ready for the next beta..

I must be the only person not having battery issues given the amount of complaining about it on the forums.

Yeah, I haven't charged mine in 2 days and I will probably not charge it until I pass out tonight in like 12 hours.

I agree that battery life with iOS5 on my iPhone4 and iPad2 is outstanding! After a lot of use, I'm rarely less than 60 percent. Most evenings when I plug them both in for an overnight charge, they are in the 70-80 percent range. I doubt any other smartphone can match that!

Battery life not so great

My battery life is not that great. Also sometimes when it loses network like in metro or for any other reason and after I get network back my phone is constantly accessing location service. Unless I turn in off which I believe is not supposed to work that way

^ How on earth? My usage gets no-where near that. What do you do on your phone!?

This 45 minutes is only from texting, nothing else, in a strong 3G area with Push, Location, Vibrate and Siri's raise-to-speak function turned off.

It's so disappointing. I can't really see how Siri is affecting it either if it's not being used with the raise to speak function or having all the other settings turned off so I can't even work out what the issue is :(

I don't suppose either one of you have bothered restoring your phones, have you?
