This isn't just an iOS 9.x issue. I have several iCloud accounts that I only use for mail. Mail in iOS 9.1 and OS X 10.11.1 frequently asks for me to re-enter the password for one or more of these "mail only" iCloud accounts. Mail in OS X 10.11.1 then takes the account(s) offline while complaining about the "network". If I just quit and reopen Mail, the account(s) go back online without entering the password(s).

I'm beginning to believe that this is a simple timing glitch. IOW if iCloud doesn't get a response quick enough, it asks for the user to re-enter the iCloud password. This glitch could mainly effect users with slow and/or variable speed internet connections. Which may explain why it happens most often when an iOS device is busy after being rebooted.

BTW you can bet that Apple software developers and testers were/are unlikely to see a timing glitch because they rarely if ever have a "slow pipe" :)

That's a good theory. Still, these kinds of bugs are just unacceptable :(

I agree.

I turn off as many of the iCloud services as I possible can. Since the fastest uncapped internet service in my area is only 6mbs, most iCloud services are a cruel joke. I'm guessing that Apple's iCloud services would be designed quite differently and work much more reliably if Apple were to adopt a "2G Tuesdays" policy.

Maybe it's a malware thing that has spread to all our devices and is now forming a new Matrix.

Whats worse is every once in a while it tells me my password is incorrect and the only way to stop it from popping up is to simply dismiss it.

Has anyone noticed any problems resulting from just not entering it? I had this happen today after downloading a free app and had it take me to to settings but didn't enter my password but was still able to look at all my account info because I have TouchID on and all my iCloud services are working fine.

I had this problem in the 9.1 beta. iCloud asked for password every start up. I ended up fixing the problem by changing my password. After the change it magically stopped. Good luck.

If you're in the beta and having the problem please submit feedback. They will ask for logs that will help the beta engineers fix the bug.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't related to IOS, because I'm having the same issue on my 2014 rMBP. I haven't tried changing my password yet, but logging out and back into iCloud doesn't resolve the issue for me.

It keeped asking me, but I think I fixed it for me.

What I did: Settings -> iCloud -> Tap on your Name(iCloudAccount) -> and type in your Password.
I closed Settings and it was gone. Havent had a Popup since then.

Can anyone confirm this fix?

I tried this a few days ago but the problem came back tonight. So no, it's not a fix.

This bug also happens without a phone restart. I never turn my phone off. Mine happens at random times during the day, for no apparent reason. I'm getting this error every couple days now.

Something also keeps turning on iCloud backup for my photos. I keep getting messages saying my phone cannot be backed up to iCloud because I'm out of space, and when I go into iCloud settings to manage what's backed up, my camera roll is always enabled. I keep disabling it, and yet it keeps coming back. I'm wondering if it's tied to the iCloud password error.

That didn't resolve it for me either. As others have stated, the issue only happens for me when the devices have been powered off or rebooted.

Any time your device is logged out and back in to iCloud, "My Photo Stream" is selected by default, as well as iCloud drive, and everything in it.

Did anyone try changing passwords like I suggested above?
I read your post above, but I haven't tried that yet. I changed my password about 6 months ago, but one of the pop-ups that I'm getting is asking to "reverify" my password, so it's possible that a password change might resolve it.
