Could you please recommend me some of those several other youtube apps? I'd seriously consider switching.

I'm loving ProTube (background audio playback, no ads, PiP/Slide Over/Split View) no issues with battery draining with this app. As was mentioned Tubex is also great. There is also YouPlayer if you are looking for an app that also offers PiP/Slide Over/Split View for free.

Hey all, I visited this thread tonight because I had just charged my batter this morning, and by tonight it was almost on low batter warning. I looked at the apps under battery usage and Youtube was at the top stating 90% usage it also said Audio under it. Here are the details that suggest there is something wrong with the app.

1. the app wasn't even running in the app switcher
2. I don't use background app refreshing it's totally disabled as well as location services and most everything else I don't use, and is known to be a battery killer.

I had bee using Youtube on the Mac, but not the phone, i wonder if there is some kind of bug where if you use it on one device it tries to do it on the others too.

The Other thing to note is, I never leave apps running on my phone, have auto lock set to 1 minute only use notifications for things I need etc.

Frog Now, I have deleted Youtube from the phone and will wait for iTunes to show me there is an update on the mac, then re install if i see bug fixes.

Device info, iPhone 6 Verizon wireless 16 GB iOs 9.1 clean install only have about 18 to 20 apps and a few audio books on the phone as far as content.

Hope I gave enough information here, if someone has more information let me know. Thanks :)

Is it draining and doing something unexpected, or did you simply use YouTube for some time in the past day?

I've been having the YouTube background activity drain my 5S. Just picked up the update, so hopefully that will fix it.
I only jhust started getting this problem, so it is not apparently solved. I have background refresh off, but still the battery drains very fast and I sometimes ee that YouTube has used 60% when I only played a video for 3 minutes,

...so kill the app in the task switcher after using it, or purchase a 3rd party YouTube client.

A bit unrelated but the YouTube app sucks, you can view YouTube from Safari and block Ads with Content Blockers, also background playback and I feel it uses less battery. You should give it a try.

Or use ProTube and pay once and have no ads as well and get all the nice features such as Picture and Picture and Split View as well.

iOS 10.1(.1) has/had a major battery drain that was fixed on iOS 10.2.

I wouldn't use the stock YouTube app. My vote goes to Protube.
