Are you talking about lag or stutter?

1. Lag is delay when you tap an app and it takes 1-2 seconds to launch.

2. Stutter is when multitasking animation skips frames to complete in pre determined time.

3. Sometimes it's a combination of the two.

So what is it? :p

Also seeing less stuttering on my 6 Plus, especially when pulling down Spotlight from the Home Screen. It's not perfect but it's an improvement over previous versions of iOS 9. As far as lag goes, I've never been overly concerned about the speed which apps open and close. Seems the same as it's always been.

It's the app switcher where I'm noticing less stutter. The animation seems much smoother. There may be dropped frames, but not enough for me to notice.

Anyone with an iPad Air 2 running the beta? I'm seeing mostly posts about iPhones! I want to know about iPad. Versus 9.1 final not any previous release.

Thanks in advance if anyone answers!

I'm running it on my Air 2. It's running great thus far, but keep in mind I don't have fps eagle eyes. ;)

Having said that, seems that the App Switcher is very smooth.

Installed the beta on my iPad Air, performance difference is barely noticeable compared to iOS 9.1. The frame rate problems across iOS system level animations doesn't seem to be addressed at all.

By the way iOS 9.1 on iPad Air was poorly optimized to begin with. Multitasking app switcher's frame rate is extremely low, pulling down on the home screen to access spotlight search also has very low frame rates. It looks like the overall fluidity and responsiveness of iOS 9.1 is actually worse than iOS 8.4.1.

Have you tried a restore and set up as new?

Yes of course, I've restored from previous iTunes backups and erased the device to set up as new. It appears the problem isn't with how I set up the device, it's more of a problem on Apple's side. iOS 9.1 isn't optimized well especially in the multitasking app switcher and spotlight search, and sadly 9.2 doesn't fix this either.

Just checking because I know people who restore big backups tend to get issues, especially if it's a backup from a different device or older iOS version.

On my 6+ and Air 2, everything seems faster and more responsive.

App Switcher and Spotlight definitely improved on these two devices.

Misc question, but there's an awful lot of stutter on 9.0.2 while "peeking" at a conversation in the messages app, then swiping up to view a list of responses. Is this something that's addressed in future iOS versions? It's strikes me as weird as other contextual menus don't have anywhere near this level of dropped frames.

"shrug" I think i have heard this every beta and im always disappointed when i try it.. never the same as some people say.
I'm reporting my experience, which is positive. You may have a completely different opinion.

This is not directed towards you.

What I do find interesting is, I'm not denying there's lag. Yet, our resident lag experts are ready to jump and report everything is horrible in lag-ville again.

It's all or nothing to them. It must be a fluidity utopia on b1. Don't give folks hope they are working this. It's no lag or bust.

I've never had any issues as far as speed of opening things or responsiveness. What I have seen since 8.0 on my iPhone 6 Plus (and many other models, but particularly the Plus) is the low frame rate that animations run at. Especially compared to something like the iPhone 5 or 6 that have less pixels to push. This is noticeable in the control center, spotlight pull down, rotating the screen with spotlight open (stupid slow frame rate), quick reply, and sometimes the app switcher.

This is completely negated by turning on reduce transparency since it doesn't have to render as much but this makes iOS look quite ugly and it shouldn't have to be dumbed down to make it perform like it should.

It hasn't always been like this either, my iPhone 4s ran iOS 7.1 perfectly smooth and it had significantly less power. This is also noticeable on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus as pointed out by Erica Griffin here (watch in 60fps). Shouldn't be an issue.

That being said, upgrading to iOS 9.2 hasn't changed my 6 Plus at all from what I can tell. Still drops frames where it has for the last year. It's no iPhone 4 on iOS 7, but still.
